April 2008 Cache of the Month
GC17N00 - Lying Eyes by MNmonarchs
Nominated by two of hearts
I would like to nominate Lying Eyes by MNmonarchs. The cache shows a lot of work and was original. At least it was the first of this type for me. I think after you make the find you can't help but smile and say well done.
March 2008 Cache of the Month
GC12M4W - Film Container by nudlez
Nominated by speedysk1
I nominate Film Container, near Pine Island. This is a great easy cache that was well thought out and put together.
February 2008 Cache of the Month
GC17T6R - Similar Bermuda Triangles by KBayNPapaBear
Nominated by bflentje
While some of us have difficulty with puzzles, this cache is definately worth looking at. This puzzle took me to things that I didn't know existed and had all of the right elements to make it fun. Everything required to come up with a solution is provided and no advance knowledge of any funky cipher is required. KBayNPapaBear's execution of this cache was as good as any mystery cache provided by the Infamous Puzzlers and is worthy of some attention, win or lose.
January 2008 Cache of the Month
GC14F9N - Laptop Special by Don Cacheote with inspiration from GPSr
Nominated by dornole
This was a highly original puzzle and I got a lot of joy out of solving it. The final hide was in a nice spot too. Not too many people have found this one and I think it's time to get out there and find it!!
Minnesota Geocaching History Challenge
Minnesota will be 150 years old and the Minnesota State Parks are starting a Geocaching History Challenge as part of the Sesquicentennial celebration. Everyone is encouraged to join in. This is where you can sign up to adopt a park and geocache as part of the Minnesota Sesquicentennial Celebration starting on May 11, 2008. And this is where you can find out the details.
December 2007 Cache of the Month
GC14W8Y - RIDING THE RAILS by geomatrix
Nominated by jambro
We found this cache back in September, but it's one of those caches Mrs j and I still talk about. The cache is located in White Bear Lake but starts along a prominent trail. Geomatrix found a great theme to build a multi cache around, and each station on his itinerary is different and challenging. It took us a some time to find stage 2, and the final is in a spot that, after you finish, you slap yourself in the head with a loud "DOH!" While the difficulty is 3-star, I think it would be fun for kids to take a hike along these old tracks while parents are scratching their heads. A worthy multi right here in the metro area!
Novermber 2007 Cache of the Month
GC13X1C - Watch for Falling Rocks by Mystery Cheetahs
Nominated by andrewmcc
I just got back from Duluth having a great time caching with great hikes and caches. I have one that really stood out. I hear that it is a first time cache for the owner but I think that they hit a homerun on it. It is Watch for Falling Rocks. It is not too far from downtown Duluth. You have to work a little to get to it but it is worth it. You start by hiking along the shore where on windy days the shore would be a place where you could get wet feet. You are walking at the base of a cliff that sometimes seems to be leaning over you. Try to take your time and skip some stones and watch an ore boat go by. When you get to the GZ it is just a plain good hide, well done with a bit of deception.
Well done on a first try Mystery Cheetahs!
October 2007 Cache of the Month
GCHXB9 - Mountain Goat by Candy Apple Green
Nominated by TheGilby3
I have been waiting to nominate Mountain Goat by Candy Apple Green since we completed it last year, until this fall. The reason being, is that to get the absolute most out of this cache, it should be done in the fall during the changing colors of the trees. In over two years of caching, this cache has given me one of my all time favorite memories, and it is for sure one of my top five favorite hides. All three of TheGilby3 did this well hidden, clever multi right at the peak of the color change (Oct 4th 2006). The hike was breathtaking, with photo opportunities at every twist and turn of the trail. I can not speak highly enough of this cache. If you haven't done it, this fall is the perfect time to do it. The cool air, with the water below you, and the river banks FILLED with reds, yellows, oranges, purples, greens, and browns. AWESOME! Not to mention, the final hide was placed exactly where I wanted it to be. We found this one in very early October last year. So, if you plan on getting to this one during the peak, you may have to act fast. To me, this is what caching is all about!
September 2007 Cache of the Month
GC12VTX - 5 Digits 2 Float Your Boats by IBcrashen, Gonsolo & Roxy
Nominated by laker2
I would like to nominate "5 Digits 2 Float Your Boats" by IBcrashen as COTM. This cache has something for everyone. It is both puzzle and multi. But also at the various stages there are some interesting "challenges" to test one's manual dexterity and mental ingenuity. All of this is after you solve the initial puzzle. To top everything off, it is located within a very pretty area of Duluth far from crowds. As I said in the cache log, you do not find this cache, you experience. It's fantastic.
