Meet July's Featured Cacher - PA-20
One of the most prolific local cachers, who you will find at nearly any event and any cache, is PA-20. This guy gets around - he's cached just about everywhere! I bumped into him a few years ago at a cache in Burnsville, and we've been crossing paths ever since! I had the pleasure of celebrating his 10,000th find last October. The best part of PA-20 is that he has the most interesting geocaching stories - and he's not shy about sharing them! So without further ado, here's this month's featured cacher, PA-20!
How long have you been geocaching?
I found my first geocache on August 29, 2009.
How did you end up getting into this wacky hobby?
I was camping at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park and I was reading a bulletin board and saw a note that said "Congratulations, you have found the first stage of a multi-stage geocache. I went back to my camper and grabbed my GPS and found each stage and then the final. I found out the Ranger had a list of several more so I hunted and found the rest of them that day.
How did you come up with your geocaching handle?
I did not really give it a lot of thought and I am not a very creative guy. I owned and flew a 1950 Piper Pacer which has the designation "PA-20" which was fortunately short and I thought it was a good handle.
How did you find your first Geocache, and which one was it?
My first cache was "Nerstrand Big Woods State Park Wildlife Safari" which I found by using an early model Garmin which just indicated the coordinates.
What/how many states/countries have you geocached?
I have cached in 25 States and one Canadian Province.
What town/areas have you most enjoyed caching in?
I enjoy caches that take me on a hike in the woods to a nice big ammo box (they are always dry) and I also greatly enjoyed all the "Gadget Caches" in Rhinelander, WI.
What is a favorite caching memory of yours?
I have many and it hard to pick only one. But if I have to pick one it it would have to be the caching adventure of finding the 12 stages of the bflenje cache "For Your Eyes Only" with lkvlemnguy and hoffer15.
Do you enjoy hiding or finding more as your part of the hobby?
I like hunting for caches more than hiding them but I do dream about making hides!
What is your favorite type of cache hide?
I enjoy most all caches but I always give a favorite to all Virtuals I visit!
What do you do when you’re not geocaching?
When I am not geocaching I am riding my motorcycle, flying, fishing or hunting.
Anything else you'd like folks to know about you?
That I am a 6 year Navy veteran and I am proud to be an American!
