Meet February's Featured Cacher- JAYMZ*BRONX
Enjoy getting to know our featured cacher JAYMZ*BRONX
Are you an individual cacher, or a team?
I mostly cache alone but some of my closest Geo-Buddies that a I have cached with a few times are jandc02, TheCachin8tor, tonkaMN, theodellfamily, ljvet, Jenkity, Yellowdogs & Khoda
How long have you been geocaching?
I started caching in June 2012
How did you end up getting into this hobby?
Actually I heard about Geocaching in 2000 but didn't look into it any further. Then in 2012 I got an Ipod touch and was looking for apps and I saw Geocaching and I thought it would be fun now that I have kids.
How did you come up with your geocaching handle?
I was born & raised in the Bronx, I lived there for 29 years. My first handle was bronx10463 which was my zip code but I would SL JAYMZ that I got from James Hetfield singer of Metallica in 1987. He signed his name that way and I thought it was a cool way to spell it, so I adopted it. I am also know as J*B or Skinny Creeper which actually spawned a series of hides by myself and other cachers. There is even a Creeper Challenge!
How did you find your first geocache, and which one was it?
I live in the city of Ramsey in Anoka County. The first day I went out to try Geocaching it was the day after we had a ton of rain. So every time I went to walk in the woods there was water where there shouldn't be, so I headed to another park. The first cache I found was Hudson Moved by yellowdogs - GC3FYG1, it is a regular size and as soon as I saw it, I was excited (I'm sure the addiction began at that moment) then when I grabbed it, it started making noise! "Boing Boing Boing, Happy Easter!" it was some candy container someone dropped in the cache. So now in my mind all caches are that big so the next one I went to look for was actually a Nano but I was looking for a regular, so that became my first official DNF. Then I went home and checked YouTube for Geocaching and the first video I watched was showing a Nano so that helped out big time.
What/how many states/countries have you geocached?
Only 3 states so far for me. Minnesota, Wisconsin & Florida.
What town/areas have you most enjoyed caching in?
Hmmmm, I must say I do enjoy Anoka County as a whole & I have found some pretty good ones in Minnetonka & Eden Prairie. I also enjoy clearing a park that has 4 or more hides in it.
What kind of geocaching rig do you use? Rig as in vehicle or GPS? Well I'll answer both. My Geo-Mobile is a 2002 Chevy Express aka The Big Blue Beast and its Trackable!! My GPS is a Garmin eTrex Venture HC that I bought off of thehoffmonsters which I blame for my evilness of hides!
What is a favorite caching memory of yours?
I have 3 that really stick out. The first is my 1000 finds tribute get together, it had a pretty good turn out and the hide itself was a scary tree climb (which is an inside joke, I believe). The second is Judgement Day by TheCachin8tor - GC3ABGG It took 7 of us a little over 2 hours to complete. I had an awesome team with me it was tonkaMN, BigchiefS4, jandc02, theodellfamily, Langlie & Copaman. It is a 9 stage Multi and each stage is totally different then the last. The third is my The Final Souvenir! event - GC4JY9H , it had a surprisingly large turnout. I gave away prizes at the end and ljvet came up with the idea of doing it by things like Who has the most/least finds, longest cache name...... it definitely made it Fun!!
Do you enjoy hiding or finding more as your part of the hobby?
I have equal love for both!! Once it took me 6 hours to place 4 hides and I enjoyed every minute while doing it. It's always rewarding to find a tough/evil hide. Anytime spent Geocaching is a Good time.
Which cache of yours is your favorite hide?
GC44ET5 Bring A Bible...SERIOUSLY! is my favorite hide that I hid, it was a lot of fun creating & placing. It has earned 11 Favorite points, won COTM for June 2013 and I hid it on my 40th birthday. I don't want to reveal too much but If you head out to it someday just make sure you take me SERIOUSLY!
What is your favorite type of cache hide?
I really enjoy Field Puzzles & unique creative Multi's.
What do you do when you’re not geocaching?
As for work I'm a carpet installer, that's why my range of finds is all over the Twin Cities. Out of work I am married and have 4 kids, so my life is pretty busy, so me getting 1630+ finds in a year and a half is beyond me. I also started a Facebook group called Geo-Junkies United, we now have 150+ members from multiple states. So I try and frequently post on there to keep caching on peoples minds!!!
Any personal note to end with
Take only pictures, Leave only Footprints, Log your DNF's, HAVE FUN!!!! BIG THANK YOU to all CO's & our Publisher/Reviewers out there. Without them there would be nothing for us to find!
