Might also be helpful to get the 10 most prolific sites in minnesota with the number of posts recorded to each. Can anyone figure out the best way to look this up? _________________ I am amazed by how many people harp on the need to speak and write English in this country while exhibiting a fundamental lack of skills in the areas of spelling and sentence composition. Would this be irony, hypocrisy, or both? |

I found a study that says after trampling an area with 25 or 150 passes of a person one right after another, there is no difference in ground cover when compared to a control area after 1 year.
Shoot me your e-mail and I will send you the pdf of it. |

Actually the new policy surprises me a lot. Champlin had been VERY cooperative about geocaching up to this point. City council was aware of the activity because it was brought up back in April 2003. I was working on a policy with them at one time, but they were either not interested or not concerned.
I ended up becoming friends for awhile with a city council member I met at Galloway park. In fact, my cache "Maggie and Sadie's Dog cache" is named after her two dogs and she goes by the geo-handle "maggiesadie".
(she is very nice -- no harassing her!!) In fact, I think she still walks her dog at Galloway every day. Guess I will go look for her while I am retrieving my cache from the park, eh?
Moe -- is Julia still on your city council??? Wonder why she didn't email me that this was happening. We lost track of each other.

I just emailed her (nicely)
Is the guy in charge of parks named Andy Singleton?? If so, he is next in line.
How many caches are in Champlin?? How many will HAVE to be removed?
I looked over the map a bit, but I am unsure which are which.
I think Champlin has like 25 or so parks available and the two of the parks listed as approved are just unsuitable for caching (except of course teeny, tiny, evil caches ) And they get maybe 2 or 3 finders a month...... maybe.
Shall we gather mountains of stats and papers and go to a City Council meeting?????
There is a City Council meeting on September 13th at 7pm in the City Council room. And another one on the 27th.
Do you have to be a city resident to speak at one of these???
Looks like there is a Parks and Rec commision meeting on September 7th at 7pm in the City Council room -- is public invited to that?
Lets go talk to the city and then have "Get Sauced" event immediately afterward |

sui generis,
I would be happy to help out with your draft of a model regulation / suggestions for park managers. I found about five scholarly articles through the U of M Lumina system today about the impact of walking through woods or meadows. Still trying to figure out what they say but it looks like there is little impact in our type of forests with less than a couple hundred visitors.
Along with the average number of visitors to the top dozen caches, I would like to be able to mention the average number of visitors overall to all caches (in MN or Twin Cities area) as well if someone is able to pull that info.
Edit: added (in MN or Twin Cities area) |

Crazy. You get all the way to 24 before you get to a Boreas cache in your list, Bob. (No, I didn't count he adopted one) _________________ "You cannot reason a person out of a position they did not reason themselves into" |

Somebody needs to get this information to the parks department first so they understand there is not a problem in their community.
I'll keep trying to get a dialog with my contact.
Let's still have a "Get Sauced" in Champlin..... we'll call it a planning meeting or something |

There are royalty fees that need to be paid to use the name.
You can mail the $1000 check to Silent Bob c/o Marsha Inc. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Here are the MN caches that are hardest on life-forms. Now KB has one in the top 3, but I bet most of you can't remember visiting it.
