So, I spent the afternoon crawling around in knee deep snow. I found two caches but got skunked at two more. Anybody know which local caches are "above ground" and can be found without resorting to digging through the snow and perhaps damaging the landscape? I know of a few, but there must be more. |

I'll post the Feb. cache o' the month which is a good winter cache. Look for it around Feb. 15! _________________ "I bet you can't tell me what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel." - Sean to Will, Good Will Hunting |

Of my caches it looks like you've found the most sheltered or out of the snow ones: Gorgeous and Coingo Boingo.
You may have to dig through snow, but you should never have to "damage the landscape" when hunting. Some caches are under rocks but I have never found one in this state (or ever actually) that was truly buried.
On that subject, buried caches are strongly advised against by both MnGCA and geocaching.com:
"Please do not bury the container unless you have express permission of the landowner or manager. If the cache is far enough away from trafficked areas, your cache should be fine. An exception would be covering the cache with dead branches, bark, etc. to conceal the container. " |

My Donie Galloway Riverside Park cache should not require digging through the snow. And while you are up in the area, Isildur's Bane's Have a Heart is above the snow line as well.

I have a couple that are above snow line.
1. Wood lake nature center, #GC7E9F
2. Veterans Park, I don't have the number handy, it is in Richfield too.
3. I have one inside of a rock, I guess that could be considered underneath it. #GC9EE4 You might have to push some show away for this one, but it is close to the trail.
Have fun. |

Lance,
Not to nit pick but the Triple C cache is in Woodbury. I should know I put it there.
Glad you liked the cache.
Thanks,

I must of had a brain freeze in February....
Maybe I meant "Out near Oakdale"
Is it time to repurpose this thread as "Good Spring Caches"?

Since this is Minnesota, I suppose winter still applies--who else planted annuals when it got warm, only to watch them struggle to survive the last couple of days? _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |
