I went over to pick up my Candy cache this morning and to check on Lena's place.

Moe the Sleaze had recently sent me a photo of Lena's tree and it had been 75% cut down with a letter of apology in the cache. Well, it is worse than that, that whole area is getting cleared --- there is some serious logging going on in the parks in Coon Rapids. What's up with that?
There were little piles of logs everywhere all over the park -- major areas of trees were gone. Is this for firewood or what? Rolling Eyes

Paul is about 7 feet away from losing his Littler Brown cache in upper Erlandson park due to logging in that area, (which I am afraid is going to be turned into more townhomes). I have seen logging going on around lower Erlandson too.
Someone reported cutting to me at S&J's cache area (it is still safe and sound) and also at Pheasant Ridge (which I removed). Part of Lundgren was totally leveled and the big trees were replaced with small sparce shrubby bushes (I removed that one too)

Why is Coon Rapids cutting back on so many of the parks?? There are not that many good geo-worthy parks in the community to start with -- most are ball fields, playgrounds or hockey rinks - not so many with trees and trails. Crying or Very sad

As a card carrying member of the Sierra Club, I invite you to join our ranks. What you are seeing is something the Sierra Club has known about for years known as urban sprawl. Like MnGCA, the Sierra Club has a stronger voice with more members.
