Ah, now I know how to compensate for coordinate drift, just place a cache container larger than 30 feet in width Very Happy

I recently subscribed to terraserver.COM, a commerical service which offers hi-res aerial photos with 6 inch / pixel resolution. These are much better than the 1 meter / pixel photos that you can find on various free web sites. Its pretty unbelievable accuracy compared to a GPSr.

I went thru about 400 caches that I have found, and often you can see hiders coords that are many feet off the mark. You can also see caches where the hiders coords are dead on the mark, such as this one by RJ, where the coords are of a sign and you can clearly see the shadow of the sign in the photo!

When did I ever say that subscriptions are evil?

I have said that Members Only Caches are evil. People who hide members only caches but hunt free caches themselves, are hypocrits.

Don't forget, we just had a major solar flare the other day. That alone would/could affect signals. Although solar flares typically affect lower frequencies, it can cause some issues at VHF, UHF and higher.

No, people who hide members only caches are "protecting" added-value caches. If some idiot is gona steal my cache, so be it. But he/she is going to have to pay $30.00 to steal my ammo box.

If it's the plain jane yello etrex, what did you expect?
Obviously anyone with one of them (lacking WAAS)
would have bought the M Explorist 100 if it was out!

No WAAS? 25 feet right? Sure on a good day!
Plan for anywhere between 15 and 60 I'd say...

Bow down to the WAAS Gods... (and thank aviation!)

Just so happens I DID buy one of those, and it is MUCH more accurate than the eTrex was. Your mileage may vary, but I'm very happy with the eXplorist 100, even though it lacks computer interface, which I don't care about anyway, since I put in so few waypoints at one time, it is not a hassle for me to do so manually.

I'm so happy for you! Excellent move! And not too expensive...

Do you like the Explorist?

I really do. It's just as easy and intuitive to use as the eTrex. Its price is right, but I fear that many will overlook it because it does not have the ability to interface with software that will download waypoints automatically. I just don't mind doing that at all. It takes me less than one minute to enter a waypoint manually, and I always delete them after I've found a cache.

I have been thinking about getting a GPSr with slightly more advanced mapping capabilities, too. I probably need one now that I'm in search of caches that are hidden in areas that are unfamiliar to me. And, I have very little intuitive directional sense. I may have to look into this soon.
