I just bought a can of Copenhagen for the first time since "One term is" Pawlenty's new TAX just went into effect, and it's now one of the most valuble things I own!!! Who else has been affected by the new tobacco TAX? Looks like I'm going to be heading to Hudson weekly to buy my tobacco now. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

With gas prices in the $2.50 range would it really be worthwhile to buy a couple logs of Cope in WI? Why not just buy it off the Internet? _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

When I go look for geocaches in Wisconsin State Parks and other lands administered by the Wisconsin DNR, I'll make sure I buy tobacco before I head back across the St. Croix to the Land of 10,000 regulations. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

| Heard this morning that it is a "fee", not a tax, to you can't even get them cheaper near the casinos. |

| The Strib said they have a law to tell them who bought it over the Internet. |

I read the same article in the Strib and they appear to be going after sales tax dogers on the internet related to tobacco purchases. Not safe anywhere it seems. _________________ round n' round we go! |

Pretty soon they'll have the checkpoints at the state borders like they do at the international border where they ask if we're transporting any alcohol, tabacco, or firearms across. Fee, tax---a rose by any other name... _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

Regarding this new smoking tax...I mean fee, fee....I get that mixed up all the time..
Happy to report that my husband has not bought a pack since the FEE went into effect..a combination of Smoke Away and getting a little puff every now and then from whatever he can scrape from his collection of cig. butts downstairs..His goal was to quit before our daughter was born..she's nine now..
If nothing else, at least Pawlenty managed to get my husband to quit smoking..at least one good thing came out of his administration..now I just gotta work on keeping my recreation centers open until we get a new administration..almost a 50% cut in our budget for next year..but hey, parks and recreation is a non-essential service (as quoted from Awada a couple of years ago)..I suppose if our doors start shutting, the kids will find other things to do, like take up smoking..just venting here... |

Opinion: The tobacco tax is a poor way to fund the state government. Fact (I have read this but I don't have a reference to cite): Even with the increase in the tobacco tax the use of tobacco is a net financial loss to society as a whole because of the cost of care for tobacco-caused health problems. _________________ Sig line?
