I could ask this question in the geocaching.com forum, but I like the answers I get here better. I guess they are closer to home. How do you write the html in a log so that the name of a cache location is blue, underlined, and a link to that website? My html idea wasn't working. When I took Fortran in the days when knights fought dragons, I ended up with the same results. Confused

edit subject by PH to make more informative

To my knowledge html links are automatically converted to something like ("external link") by groundspeak for all logs. I think this is to prevent click jacking or other nefarious things.

You can't have html in logs, some bbcode tags are supported.

Look at the url tag.

These forums support BBCode as well - the same technique to make urls on gc.com apply here and visa versa.

Is this what you want to do??

TEST

It looks like this-> [ url=http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=951927db-e8e7-4dde-b062-88b9e65aa955]TEST[/url ]

Just take the spaces out of the first and last bracket (before url= and after /url). You can see where you put the text you want as the link.

Or to make it clearer you can copy and paste this and add the proper info...
[url=PUT WEB ADDRESS HERE]VISIBLE TEXT HERE[/url]

Thanks. I keeps it for future reference. I've wanted to use it a few times. I already have three submitted changes to my log I was experimenting on to no avail. The log is getting a bit long. Rolling Eyes I'll have the how-to information now when I need it. I had tried using this: <a>here</a> with the addy that I wanted it it. That didn't work. Don't laugh...I know just enough about anything to get me nowhere with everything.

When you edit your log, you can take out the line (or three lines) that say:
[This entry was edited by Aix sponsa on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 9:32:48 PM.]

Then you will end up with only one line stating that you edited, and will have a shorter log.

Thanks. My middle name should be Edit-re-edit. I presume that the most recent edit message cannot be eliminated, but the rest will. Is that correct? Caching is an adventure that can be rather hard to keep short and succinct in the description. Thanks again.

That is correct. Also, from my experience, you can edit immediately and it won't show up, but if you come back later and edit the entry it will show up. I edited this post a couple times and the tag is not here.

I've wondered how that was done. Aix sponsa, thanks for asking in this forum so I could easily find. spd2662, thanks for the code so I could easily copy/paste. My coding skills are abysmal at best - kind of back in pre-dinosaur days! I just have such a hard time with brackets, quotes, and all those little items that need to be correct for code to work.
