Yes, but ONLY if it's attached to a published cache so I can get my smiley.

Hi all! So the other weekend, I got wind of a city doing a festival cache...

First off... I personally, do not mind doing a cache as part of a festival (it's much like a medallion hunt with cords!!). I know that will not publish ANY caches like these because they are "temporary" and could be considered commercial. I will be putting one out myself for a fair, so I can't say anything bad about them...

So it's wednesday night, I get a text from the CO which is the main contact to this cache. They say they are releasing the cords on Thursday morning. So I get my posse together, and the hunt is on for thursday morning!! We arrive at site 1, get cords, snap a pic like the instructions say, and move to stage 2. Stage 2 reveals a COMPLETE DEAD END! Nothing there. The search party grew from 2 to 3, then 4, and after an hour and a few texts to the CO, we are ready to throw in the towel. The CO finally shows up, only to tell us that the rest of the stages would not be posted until Saturday. Wait... WHAT?? You put out cords for stage 1, but NOTHING ELSE? After a friendly discussion, we find out that he is from up north, and has less than 50 finds, and 1 hide. We also revealed that he was upset with for refusing to post this cache. With multi stages 50 ft from existing caches, and a temp cache with a commercial interest. Yea.... Needless to say, I didn't bother going back due to the lack of respect the CO had for geocaching.

With all that being said, have you had any encounters with good/bad festival caches? I learned a lot of what NOT to do from this guy, and I hope I can learn more from you for mine. Thanks for the info!!
