Geocaching - The policy is being revised to allow more flexibility for geocaching on our properties and to ensure that all caches placed are properly permitted. All existing caches will be archived by Groundspeak (geocaching.com) between October 1 - November 1, 2012 and new licenses for the placement of caches will be required. Cache limits on DNR properties will be enforced, but there will be more DNR sites available for caches, particularly those with no containers. The new license form will be available about November 1. Thanks for your patience.

I'll probably be losing a 10+ year old cache, with original container AND original logbook.

I've only been doing this for 2 years, but remind me which kind of caches (that can currently be placed) have no containers? |

Earthcaches.
My fear is that the licensing requirements will make hiding caches more work than it is worth, and caches will not be placed. But then again, maybe the end result will be higher quality caches? |

Earthcaches and multis with virtual stages (like those that would...use numbers from a sign). _________________ Hmm... |

I think we're already seeing some of that. Sometimes when a new cache is placed in an area that requires a permit it will never be submitted for review again once the CO learns that a permit is required for their new cache (that they already hid). And this is for areas that have some pretty simple permit processes......

I'm curious if that's the experience of those that seek caches in places like TRP or Brooklyn Park parks? _________________ Hmm... |

KB, I am sorry to hear this. I have great memories from that trip, and especially that cache. I hope something happens that will allow it to stay. _________________ "There is a pleasure in the pathless woods..." - Lord Byron |

| KB, is there an easy way to get a list of your active out-of-state caches? |

That is a bummer... I had a blast on a motorcycle road trip out the IN a couple years ago with that old hide on my list of specific finds I was after... Great memories and the kids on the pontoon boat may not have been doing what they were if they knew some guy was sitting at GZ and could see them. _________________ round n' round we go! |

All I'll say is that fairly significant number of caches I've found in Three Rivers Parks don't meet the TRP guidelines for being within 25 feet of an established park trail. When I pointed this out to one cache owner, I was told, "Oh, they really don't care about that." Yeah, tell that to the MnGCA folks who negotiated the policy with the District. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."
