I do it a more clumsy way:

1) Click on a cache near where I'm going, and select it as the center point
2) Sort database by distance
3) User Flags->"Set for next NN records" - usually about 1700 since my Colorado holds 2k and I want to leave room for various waypoints and my solved puzzles
4) F8 (shows only caches with user flag set)
5) Upload to Colorado
6) Clear all user flags (guess how often I forget to do this!)
