| Glad to hear, it's not only my computer. I get stuff written in German, when I try. Then I even tried going on the other computer in the house, and it had the same message - then I knew it must have something to do with the site. We can only wait to see what happens - in the meantime, Happy Caching without the internet! |

I think they went out of business. Not enough SOCs. |

Ditto. I guess they're busy improving our experience once again.
What's really odd is that the forums are also down. Did the left coast get hit by The Big One last night? _________________ Alcohol & calculus don't mix. Don't drink & deriv |

Can't ping either the main site or the forums. Of course, if I were them and my main site went down on July 3, I'd shut down my forum servers too. Heheh!
I think KB has it right... not enough SOCs. See whatcha did, rickrich?
Edited to add: waymarking.com is also down this morning. _________________ Alcohol & calculus don't mix. Don't drink & deriv |

It looks like their entire network is unavailable.
Their nameservers at ns1 and ns2.groundspeak.net - 66.150.167.164, 66.150.167.166 are unavailable. As is the IPs for groundspeak.com 66.150.167.137 and geocaching.com: 66.150.167.148-150.
This might be completely unrelated, but there are some news this morning about some fire issues in a large datacenter in Seattle.
| Code: |
Fisher Plaza, a self-styled carrier hotel in Seattle, and home to multiple
datacenter and colocation providers, has had a major issue in one of its
buildings late last night, early this morning.
The best information I am aware of is that there was a failure in the
main/generator transfer switch which resulted in a fire. The sprinkler
system activated. From speaking to the fire battalion chief, I am under the
impression that Seattle Fire did use water on the fire as well, but I am
unsure of this.
Given the failure location, generator power was not available, and cooling
failed. UPS power to systems continued, and I can personally vouch that
they held out for well over an hour. When we were able to access our
equipment, ambient air temps were well over 100 degrees in the room our
equipment is located in.
At least some, if not many circuits were affected. Several large
co-location providers and other datacenters are located in the facility,
these facilities have no power.
As this was the main/generator switch, and it is now highly damaged, the
circuits in the area are damaged, and the entire area is doused in water, a
rapid restoration of power does not seem likely. Fisher Plaza's phone
numbers now result in fast-busy signals, so I have no recent update from
them directly.
Interestingly, this building is also the production studios for several
Seattle TV and radio stations.
There is no ETA for resolution.

Very interesting find, Jonas. For what little its worth, I also (doh!) can't connect to www.fisherplaza.com. I'd say that's a pretty good guess, at least.
On the other hand... are you sure that report is current? It sounds a lot like this report:

Fire at Seattle Data Center Impacts Redfin
June 23rd, 2008 : Rich Miller
The words “fire” and “data center” are never a happy combination. The online real estate service Redfin reports that it was offline for five hours Saturday:
There was a fire in the Seattle-based data center that Redfin uses to host our web servers, causing a loss of service between approximately 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Pacific Time. The entire data center was shut down by the fire department, including universal power supplies. Thanks to Redfin’s Chris Neitzert and his team, the site is now up and running. Throughout the interruption, our agents have of course stayed at their posts working with clients.
A Netcraft dig shows Redfin is hosted with Adhost, whose Seattle data center is located in Fisher Plaza. It’s been an eventful year for Fisher Communications, which said last month that Fisher Plaza was for sale, and just today rejected an unsolicited $384 million takeover bid. |
I wonder if SJ has heard from them? _________________ Alcohol & calculus don't mix. Don't drink & deriv |

Well, I guess that settles it, Jonas. I'm going to have to get some real work done today, after all.

Sounds like we're down all day!
"They said they'd be ecstatic if the power is back on by 6 tonight" - Geocaching.com likely to be down all day." |
