I've had a number of short jaunts on flatter bike trails. When doing this I usually don't take my bike because of the time it takes to get in off or out of my vehicle and to put it back. Hiking isn't quick either. I'm thinking that learning how to ride a long board might be a good, quick alternative. Does anyone have recommendations for a decent, not-too-pricey longboard that will be used only for cruising bike trails for someone who in general is rather uncoordinated and a beginner? _________________ Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

| I have found that if I know the trail is paved I will bring along my Roller blades. You can even walk off the trail wit them on, albeit not far but for that I have shoes. |

Long skate board. Some have all terrain wheels, people use ski poles with them, but in this instance, I think we are going to read about Marry wiping out and going to the hospital. Can't wait to read her logs |

A longboard is a long skateboard.
It looks like this:
But I think I would look best if I used it like this:
Since if I actually road it I would probably end up looking like this:

| the scooter could be a good way to go, here is another option http://www.mbs.com/ a mountain board. kinda spendy but they do have pneumatic tires that you can vary the psi (so you can slow yourself down) also with the pneumatic tires, they absorb a lot of bumps that a longboard would not. i know this because i used to have one, i must also say that i have never mastered it, but it sure was fun on the asphalt. |

I'm with HK on this one - I'd like to see Mary's logs!
Is something like this a practical solution to avoiding something like 1/3 mile hikes on paved trails? _________________ Hmm... |

I think this might be a safer alternative, plus it will help her with those caches just out of reach when she gets to GZ.

LOL! Be careful what you ask for: someone may offer the wise words of a great sage. Which of you contacted my son who told me that it isn't hard at all to learn to use a long board (he has one that he uses all the time at NDSU). He then stated, "You just need to have balance." I think you are all in collusion with each other. It is a good thing you didn't see the number of times I had to leap from my bike at work this summer leaving it to bite the dust as I saved myself from certain death. Photographer Narson will not be allowed on such ventures should I find a good used longboard as the faceplant photo looks much too likely to occur. Those shoes might be a good option to haul around with me rather than the ladder that I have been seriously considering. Does Dunham Sports carry those? Off to ebay for longboards, bandaids, and first aid kits. _________________ Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

It just takes some ingenuity - long board and leaf blower and all your problems are gone.
And of course the handi-mans secret weapon

Ok so I can't figure out how to put a pic on but how about a folding bike.
They start at like 169 and they would fit in the trunk well. |

I think that this is more the solution required.
Solves so many of the problems. None of that worrying about crap on the trail, soft start and stop, little physical energy expended, and most of all helps to reach those high caches. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |
