"Great job" to everyone involved! This is the kind of situation the MnGCA was created for. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

I'm so glad we don't have to wait until they get the maps online. I know MNFC will do a good job and we'll also be self policing because most of us know what is ok and what is not. |
Yes definitely self policing. After all this I don't want it to get screwed up again. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone in that! Hope the rest of you will understand the extra "pickiness". BUT, don't let that discourage you from hiding caches for me to find!!!! |

Any updates on this? Any communication between Eden Prairie and MNFruitcake?
Nevermind, I need to check my email before posting. _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

| Yeah I should have posted something here too. Stu has a goal of finishing his part by Jan. 6 and turning it over to Fruitcake on that day. |

| Just a note that I've been in communication with Stu and things are progressing as I would have expected. At this point I'm basically just waiting for the file from EP that shows the good areas and the off-limits areas - he's shown me an example of the file in a PDF, I'm just waiting to get it in a format that I can work with. |

Great news! It'd be nice if you could enter the posted coords and see them posted on this map they are providing but I doubt it. Is this at least an aerial view that will allow you to guesstimate if the coords are in an allowed area? _________________ Tupperware doesn't belong in the kitchen! |

What I currently have is a PDF of what you'd see in Google Earth (I'm not sure if it's actually from GE or from another source). What I need (and what they're working on) is the actual KML/KMZ file for Google Earth.
That said, we know from the meeting with EP a few months ago that there are some issues with how they share data. If I'm allowed to share the data then I certainly will do so (as has been done with Dakota County, St. Paul, DNR stuff, etc, through the cache guidelines page). Some of this data comes to EP from other sources (with strings attached), so they may not have the authorization to share it with the general public.
I will ask though once I get it. |

Just an update here:
This WILL happen. We're in the process of finalizing the release of the maps to the reviewers (we have to do some paperwork with EP). I'm hoping that it will be done by the end of next week.
Unfortunately EP isn't able to release the map data of what is and isn't acceptable beyond the reviewers. My understanding (from our meeting a while ago and reinforced recently) is that this isn't a restriction EP is placing on the data - it has to do with how/where they get their map data from and the restrictions placed on them. |

Actually it is in our control to some degree. They sent us the paperwork earlier in the week but I haven't had time to fill it out and mail it back. |

| If I recall from the initial guideline discussion some of the restricted areas were for archeological sites. Might be some of the restricted data is from them. I can see why the people who own that data might not want to publish maps that say "It's right here go start looting / descrecrating" to jerky people. While I'd like to know BEFORE hiding if my cache is in a restrcted area, I hope that in the end that having the reviewers have exact map info will preserve as much area as possible for caching vs. just walling off entire parks. |

Yay!!!! I'm glad to have this next step. It's nice to see a map, but it seems to me that some liberties have been taken in declaring areas not open to geocaching that were not designated that way by the original committee. Hopefully I'm wrong there and I'll look into it more when I have more time. I'm thrilled right now.
The policy #1 "Geocaching is permitted in specific parks and conservation areas of the City of Eden Prairie with an approved permit." Do we know what "permit" means? |

I would assume that to mean properly registered with geocaching.com. I think it's a holdover from the old policy. I'll see if Stu can clarify/reword it. |
