|

Ever have the feeling lately that you can never keep up with all the new caches being published? There is a reason!
I just looked at my MN database, which now requires 20 PQ's to update. Here are a few stats:
We have over 19,000 caches in MN and should easily be over 20,000 by year end. Caches are being added at a net rate of about 500 per month (750 in the summer and closer to 300 in the winter). Obviously caches are being archived all the time, but the growth in caches is still exponential. Almost half the caches in the state have been added in the last 1 ½ years! Less than 1,000 caches are left from the first 5 years of caching and 75% of all caches were published in the last 3 years. At the rate caches are being published now we will double the number to 40,000 in the State of Minnesota is the next 3 years.
Can you say Cache-O-Mania? Sure you can!

So, a publishable Challenge would be to find, or have found, 333 of them? |

Oh boy, like KB needs data to come up with any more challenge caches |

Go for it. Local caching is in the duldrums for me now. I need a goal. |

I like the idea, but without GSAK this might be a hard one for folks to quantify? For what it's worth I have 276 caches placed between 11/5/2000 and 11/5/2005 (including archived caches of course). I've only been caching 3 years, but I'm sure there are people who have been around longer would already have > 333. |

I've found 659 caches that were placed between 11/5/2000 and 11/5/2005 just in Minnesota alone. 964 if you include outside of MN. Maybe it isn't such an exciting goal afterall. |

You can set a placed date range in a PQ I believe. Just set it to "caches you have found" and it should work. It might be a PM only cache though. |

If you require a PQ or bookmark list then it should be, although most COs will also accept a list of the caches, which anyone (PM or not) could do. |

A quick way to get the count of active caches is to check this link:
http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=24
There are quite a few "future" events to take into account, so the number on the page will be higher than the actual count. |

I can see it (maybe PM only?), but would need to learn how you filter just your finds by state and date.
But, any of these online tools including PQ's are limited to active caches, so I guess that is something to consider KB .... If you will allow archived cache finds from 2000 -2005? |

Both of them are premium members. I wonder how you were able to see it?
It was MY finds for 5 years, right? I was able to do a pocket query which generated them.
I have a top secret file which lists every MN cache archived from day 1 through April 2006. The author has (so far) chosen not to make it public. I haven't attempted to count the number of caches listed.
My current thought: Add the number of archived caches, plus the number of active caches, and require a percentage of that total. The problem with that? Five Year caches that were archived after April 2006. |
