So, on the way to work today I found a cache-less park (unless there was a puzzle final) and decided try hiding a nano I bought this spring.

So I used my Oregon 450 to mark a single way point.

Despite the unit showing good accuracy, it showed that the way point I just took was 47 feet away (I hadn't moved).

Is it possible to be +20 feet accurate and then -20 feet accurate (for a total of 40 feet of discrepancy) without moving over a matter of 30 seconds?

Yes - this happens to me alot. BUT what I do find out, is that the original coords that were marked are actually OK. I marked it 3-4 times and each time it was just a little off - so I walk back to the car, "find" and select the coords and then start walking and it all evens out.

This is precisely the reason to use the waypoint averaging feature

I usually use Google maps to fine tune the reading I get from my oregon. That is if there is something nearby that you can identify from a satellite image.

I do not trust the 450 period. I use it, just to justify the purchase, but always rely on Kathy with the 60csx to find ground zero. The 450 has put me in some real bizarre spots, when caching alone with it. We have updated it, but it is just not reliable. The old workhorse 60csx will get a signal in some pretty thick stuff. Way too many times have I heard Kathy say, "where the heck you going, ground zero is this way." I miss printing out cache sheets too.
