|
I'm planning to bike the Luce Line trail either Sunday or Monday (the day depends on if I can get anyone to join me and what day works best for anyone else, plus the weather has a vote - so far, looks like partly cloudy and 70-ish both days). Right now, I'll probably go off Langlie's bookmark list, unless I find time to make my own. Meet at 4th Ave. NE and Prospect St. NE in Hutchinson at 9am on whatever day we happen to go - also flexible on the start time, can start earlier or later, depending on what works best for everyone who joins this expedition. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

There's nothing on their website about it being closed (www.luceline.com), but I did put a call in to Metro Trails and Waterways (the suggested contact number on the website) and I'm waiting for a call back.
If it's closed at Hutch, it would prolly be better to start in Plymouth and go West. Meet at 0900 on whatever day works, Sunday or Monday, at GC1BAV9-Luce Line Parking 1. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

| I'm interested. Can't on Sunday or Monday morning. But if you are all out on Monday afternoon, and I can get away, I might like to join you en-route. Don't schedule the date based on me because I'm iffy. Just wanted to let you know I'm working on it. |

| It looks like I can't make it on Sunday and I don't know about Monday. Family is leaving for the North Shore tomorrow morning. |

I have to go to Hutch tomorrow, I can check this out.
I do know that during the state shutdown there were signs along the trail indicating it was not going to be maintained. I have been in various spots along the Luce Line pretty regularly lately, and I haven't seen any other signs that it is closed. _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |

From the DNR website -
| Quote: |
Three bridges and a cattle pass are being replaced along the Luce Line State Trail, requiring several sections to be closed until approximately October 1, 2011:
Bridge #7: Trail closed from County Highway 14 to School Road
Bridge #9: Trail closed from State Highway 7 to County Highway 4 (Major Avenue)
Bridge #10: Trail closed from 210th Street to Jade Road
Cattle pass: Trail closed from County Road 71 to Kale Avenue
|
I can find the first three on the map, and they look easy to bypass, but following the trail on Google Maps, I can't find either Co. Rd. 71 or Kale Ave. - they've got to be there, but must be like a pine tree micro and I just can't see it. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

Anyhow, I'm doing this on Monday, starting at 9am at GC1BAV9 in Plymouth (Luce Line Parking 1, linky thingy in previous post). Caching along the way, I believe 3 hours out and however long it takes to get back is reasonable, since you're not biking the whole time. If anyone is on the fence or wants to join me along the way, PM me and I'll send you my cell number. And if I can figure out how to do so, I'll make this an event on FB. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

Co. Rd 71 is closest to Luce P&G
Kale Ave. is closest to 40 purple _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |

I went to this cache today, I couldn't see any 'trail closed' signs. It is tough, not knowing in which direction this cacher was planning to go from here. _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |

Just crossed the trail on Major Ave/Co Rd 4, and there were' trail closed ahead' signs on both sides of the road. _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |
