This may be our last opportunity to grab our shovels and dig up some ammo cans, so I'm calling a Rogers run for tonight.

We'll meet at the parking lot at N 45 11.154 W 93 31.496. In case that lot isn't plowed, the backup meeting plan is Cabela's at N 45 11.234' W 93 32.242'.

Regular Cache Icon Roger's Formost cache
Regular Cache Icon Old woods old woods
Regular Cache Icon The log not the stump
Regular Cache Icon Big woods, small cache
Regular Cache Icon Big woods, big cache
Regular Cache Icon That crazy log

After finding those six caches -- well, after looking for them, anyway -- there will be a bonus puzzle cache to be found near Cabela's (with the owner's permission.)

Food and beverages to be had afterwards at Broadway Pizza Rogers, at 21431 141st Ave N, about one mile away.

.

Rogers' Foremost is doable from the Cabelas parking lot; the others may be a bushwhack.

The intended parking for those woods is at the parking lot at N 45 11.154 W 93 31.496 visible in Bing Maps. It's actually paved now, and TJ is pretty sure it has been plowed recently. *

Maybe park at Cabelas as a fallback in case the lot is inaccessible?

* I'm kicking myself; I drove right past that parking lot this morning and didn't look. Embarassed

Thanks for the suggestion! I've updated my initial post accordingly.

I would love to check these out. It is a maybe for me because of work, though.

I"m not sure if I'll be there or not. Need to check with the boss. Sounds like fun. Digging around in the snow would be much more enjoyable with WNC! I wrote to one of the COs the end of December when I was considering this run - asking about conditions. Here is the reply:
Quote:
My 2 caches are good in the winter. I have found all but 1 of the others in the snow, so at least 5 of 6 are findable. They have put a new bridge in now that spans the creek which is the only bad terrain feature and a trail leads to it, but the loop to find the 5 in the woods would have you cross the creek away from the bridge once but it's not too bad. So no trails and a lot of snow but you would be ok if you want a good workout. Someone commented that it would be good for snowshoeing in a log once which is true. I'm sure the loop is a mile or more but the woods are very pretty so I think you would be fine, good luck. I'll look forward to reading your logs for the caches.

I'm considering the trip down. WNC doesn't get much closer for me.

Drove by the parking lot on my way home and it's plowed and ready for cars. Smile

thanks for having it here. I got to get my grandson con10 to cache with me and now I get him for the rest of the week We got them all found and
stayed warm doing it. I got this park cleaned out 2 years ago in Feb. so this is a good winter park to cache in. We need more WNC in different areas of the cities. Great time out there tonight

Thanks, Butcher! And thanks, everybody else who came out! It was a great time, and I don't know why that series of caches hasn't been found more often in the winter. Great winter caches.

That was a really fun time, it was great to meet everybody and talk caching. Weather wasn't too bad and most of the caches were pretty straightforward finds.

Thanks for organizing it, Sparkyfry!
