Cooler Crew Cachers feel strongly that winters are here to stay in Minnesota. We feel that the citizens of the Twin Cities (and beyond) should take advantage of this situation by participating in the winter activities that are available in our communities. Rather than hide from winter, people should go out and have fun in it. We encourage everyone:

Winter Carnival Geocaching:
If finding the medallion seems like a long shot, here's a treasure hunt where everyone's a winner. Use your hand-held GPS receiver to track down containers hidden in parks around St. Paul. Each "cache" contains a fun fact about the Winter Carnival. The Challenge: Find all 10 by 5 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2011 and you can enter a drawing for a prize. Entry forms and coordinates are ONLY available at the carnival button sales booth in Rice Park, beginning the afternoon of January 27, 2011.

| The Winter Carnival webpage indicated that geocaching was one of the 2011 Winter Carnival outdoor events. Thanks for posting the information here. Looking forward to these Winter Carnival caches! |

Today's the day. You have until February 5th to complete the Challenge.
The drawing will be for four unactivated geocoins, plus Carnival memorabilia and souvenirs. The coins were created, and donated, by zelanzy. Thanks Tim! |

Great series so far (but I've only found one, but I'm planning to hit the rest next week). I'm glad I was able to get a score sheet at Breakfast Buddies. It would have been nice to have the score sheets available through the winter-carnival.com website, but I can understand how you'd want people to come to Rice Park to pick up and drop off a hard copy so they can get more involved in the Winter Carnival, and enjoy more Winter Carnival activities aside from looking for these caches. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |

Great series! I've found eight of ten, and can't wait to get the last two. Just sufficiently challenging. |

We knew some had loose coordinates, but we were "locked-in" to ones listed. (St. Paul Parks approval, entry form printing, etc)
After February 5th, the cache pages will be edited, using "alternate coordinates" which have been verified.
Thanks to everyone for the interesting logs. |

I had a great time doing this series. Who knew finding ammo boxes in the snow could give you so much trouble.
Thanks for putting this together.
Will the winners of the drawing be announced somewhere? _________________ May the potassium be with you! |

The four coins were delivered to the Winter Carnival rep/volunteer/Sports Chair/geocacher/treasure hunter etc etc (she's busy)
Winners will be announced on the website.
The Event was promoted on radio and TV. We are assuming it will return next year.
Tupperware in the woods? Get out there and find ammo cans in the snow! |
