Plenty of caches worth nominating. I nominated caches on at least 3 or 4 months last year. I was hoping to give others a chance to speak up.. but people rarely do.
There's got to be caches SOMEWHERE that deserve a nomination... |

Correct. For instance Lair of the Three-Headed Woman was published in 2005 (the equivalent of the middle ages in geocaching . In short, if you find a cool cache, nominate it, but if you want all the rules, click here.

Simple
Even if there is only one nomination in January for February voting.
Announce the "winner" at the end of the month like any other election, when the poles close and votes are counted at the end of the month. |
Are you saying you'd like to see a poll with just one option (based on the part I've bolded that's how I'm reading that) or are you saying you just want the official announcement of the winner at the same time, regardless if there is only one nominee? When there has only been one nominee in a month I've been announcing the winner right away, since there was no suspense and I already had to announce the results of the voting for the previous month (it's an efficiency thing, it gives me more time to wrap my prehensile tail around the throat of democracy [I kid, I just thought that line was too funny to pass up, but I do it this way for efficiency]). If it's less confusing for people, I'll delaying the announcement, but having a vote with just one option, to me, seems like a waste of disk space, time & electrons. If people feel strongly that they'd like that option, please let me know.
Remember there is never a time when you can't nominate a cache. When one month's nominations close, the next month's nomination open.
I'm open always open to suggestions to changes to CotM. I'll post something more recent to the "COTM Guideline Dicussion" if people would like to discuss anything (changes, suggestions, anything in there). |

I'm referring to the "election process"
Example: if only one judge is running for an elected office he will not be declared the winner until the election process plays out. He is not declared the winner a month before the poles close even though he is unopposed.
Do the same with COTM nominees and declare them the month's winner AT THE END OF THE MONTH like a winner that had opposition.
That seems pretty simple to me - Bart what sat you? |

I'm not trolling here, but your analogy is not correct. In political elections the reason this occurs is because of the ability to have write in votes. We do not allow right ins, so when someone is declared the winner in an uncontested election is simply moot. There is no way for anyone to change the outcome of said election. So, it simply does not matter that the winner is declared before the normal election time frame in an uncontested COTM cycle. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

To go through the effort of conducting a vote when the cache is not being contested seems like a waste of time to me. I think msteffel is doing a great job administering the program, and don’t really see the need for any changes. _________________ Ahhhhhhhh, the power of cheese! |

Doesn't matter if the COTM is contested or not. Announce the monthly winner AT THE END OF THE MONTH.
Too simple a concept???????????????????? |

No, not too simple of a concept, but there's no point. Simply changing when it's announced doesn't change anything. Why spend the time and energy to conduct an election with a predetermined outcome and wait to announce it? "Too simple a concept????????????????????"
The bigger issue is getting more nominations, not this. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

Simple enough, I’d just feel silly pretending I don’t know for an entire month

| I agree with Da Bloodhound, we should announce my win again at the end of the month. |

I'd rather talk about coffins and rental shops. |
