Posted: Thu Oct 28, 2010 12:23 pm Post subject: Tuesday Night Caching: Bipartisan Election Night Special |
|
|
[PLANS UPDATED, 11/1, 2PM]
Tuesday, November 2, 8:00 P.M. (when the polls close)
In addition to being a geocaching geek, I'm also something of a political geek. Most of my recent election nights have been spent clicking "Refresh" on the election results section of the Minnesota Secretary of State's website for hours and hours. I decided that this year, rather than sit at home and fester waiting for the results to come in, I would get out and enjoy some crisp fall air.
Those of you who know me may know that I have a specific partisan bent. Those of you who know bflentje may know that he has the opposite partisan bent. Bart has graciously agreed to co-host this event, to give it bipartisan bona fides. (If any cachers who are independents or members of the Independence Party would also like to cohost, post a reply or shoot me an e-mail, and we can discuss turning this into a tripartisan event.) I don't know if there is a demand for this sort of event, but I figure I won't find out by not trying.
Here's the itinerary:
Park near For the Love of Coffee! GC2EVYV. We'll combine into one or two cars and drive to Once Upon a Run GC2CWKK, and start with that cache. Next up, in order, are:
Lake Calhoun Rocks! GC2EFQF
Sailboats GC2DFK5
Animagus GCVAY9
3007 W Calhoun Parkway GC2BP8Z
For the Love of Coffee! GC2EVYV
End at Burger Jones, 3200 W. Lake St.

I will be there for part or all of this event. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to meet up with my fellow republi.. caching friends. |

I'm hopeful I can make it!
Do all attendees have to display "I VOTED" stickers?
Isn't there a new puzzle over there we could add to the agenda as well? |

In the spirit of modern American political "discussions" will we all stand around talking (not listening), while misrepresenting our own finds, making insinuations and accusations about the "finds" of other people (just look at that earthcache thread!), and not actually finding any caches?
We've never done any night caching, and this event might work out. |

If it's any consolation, according to the political test that plots your position on the grid, I am more Libertarian that Republican.
Hey Mike, do you prefer Green Tea or good old fashioned English Breakfast Tea? |

I'll have you know that everyone of my virtuals and earchcaches are legit. But rest assured that I still like to strike up a good conversation, geocaching, political, or otherwise. I suspect though it would be a good idea to help console our friends of the left on Tuesday, so I've been told. |

You'd better be -- You're the cohost!

Stickers encouraged but not required. I wouldn't want to penalize absentee voters. As far as the puzzle goes, feel free to solve it and onto the agenda it will go!

I was going according to the three major parties under Minnesota law, but I suppose I can add others and just change the prefix before "partisan" accordingly. I don't anticipate *that* many people would demand representation of additional parties.

Only if we can also rail about how Groundspeak is broken and beholden to special interests. Hope to see you there, JJ&TJ! I've heard tale of your puzzling prowess. |

Thanks for the link to the cache page, SNB. Got it solved!

It will be nice to meet you, too. I don't know about "prowess"... I'm hoping some puzzle-solving skill can be gained through osmosis! But I (JJ) really do enjoy the puzzles, TJ's more into the finds and swag. TJ's not sure she can do this event, so I may be there solo. |

| That sounds like fun. I'm not that crazy about sitting in front of the tv watching the election results. I am planning to be there. |

With the late start here's an idea to save time. Make this a one way trip. Meet at the end cache and shuttle people to the start. What do you all think? |
