The Sensus Census stage 1 was under water, and possibly washed away. GZ was at least two feet under the peak water level, and it looked like some serious flow happened during the flood. It was still too wet to search.
We had three other DNFs (ironically all of them were in the hills and were NOT washed away by the river) which really started to drag on our enthusiasm. We hiked our tails off for them, too!
The south side of the river (with the letterbox I really wanted to check out) was not obviously accessible except by the footbridge; and it was too mucky on the south side of the bridge to continue. So we drove around to the northeast side of the park and had much better success.
Thanks a bunch for suggesting this place, bflentje! It's exactly what I had in mind when we started geocaching. It had great hiking and beautiful color. The weather couldn't have been better, and we didn't even have to deal with mosquitoes! |

Sorry, the flooding never even crossed my mind. During a normal summer, this is a great location. |

| No worries! We figured the flooding might be an issue for the low-lying caches, and set our expectations accordingly. It was the good hiking terrain that attracted us, and we were not at all disappointed with that! |

It's not too late to quit hiking for the year. 7 mile creek park south of St Peter MN will keep you busy for days. It is right on highway 169 north of Mankato. Some of the caches along the river are probably gone, but still plenty left. Here is the number for one of them GC177HF
