| GoogleEarth, and using finding caches along a route. |
If it has been awhile since you tried to do caching along a route, geocaching.com makes it very easy now. You no longer have to create the route on google earth first then upload. The new way is pretty simple. I just did one for our road trip to Duluth to Savage on Saturday. |
I checked it out, it is a lot easier now! _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |

We can help with the Whereigo presentation. We're finishing up a Whereigo that we hope to have published soon. It's in the testing phase right now. We also have a projector and portable screen that can be used to project the live tutorial on the wall.
The first, second or third weekend in June would work for us, but we can't do the last weekend in June. |

| Since we are moving this to June, perhaps we should do 1 or 2 outdoor tracks every session. Thoughts? Might need tarps/covering if it rains. |

True, but we may have members of the general public who come to check it out, and they might not be cachers (yet!) |

True, but we will have muggles attending this event as well, hoping to learn about geocaching.... |

I am wondering how Saturday June 12th sounds to everyone? Need people who want to attend events, and people who want to teach events.
By the way, I'll start putting names by courses in the first post, so if you want to teach a course, either PM me or post it on here and I'll mark down that you would like to teach something (if you want to teach something that isn't currently listed on the first page, thats great, I'm happy to add a course)
I thought of a few more possible courses, what do you think of these:
Vacation Caching - how to plan caching into your trip. (I'm thinking Caching along a route, how to use GSAK to help, PQs, etc)
Adventure caching - Discussion of what it is (scuba/rock climbing/caving) and where to find good (local-ish (duluth, iron range, WI)) caches
Caching with Kids - Considerations for taking different age ranges out into the field (I gotta go pee)
Secrets of the power cachers (if we could get a cacher with a few thousand finds to discuss what they look for when they approach a cache site, and what they do when they can't find it in the first 5 minutes)...this would be good if they had a photo set to show off...we will have a projector.
** Panel discussion - have a panel of a few experienced cachers and allow for an open forum of questions from the audience on different topics...(this could be fun!)
So please leave me some feedback on these new ideas, and let me know if you can help out by teaching one of these, or one of the original list, or one of your own concocting.
Thanks. |

The June 12th date works for me as of now. If this is the case I will try to keep that day open. _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!

Yeah, we are locked in on the 12th, still need people to look at the list on the first post and sign up to run a class or two.
Thanks for attending or teaching (or both!) |

Would it help to have a class on trackables? How to log them, what to do with them if you find them. The different things that can be done, ie: discover, grab etc. It probably won't be a big group but if they know what they are then maybe we can stop a few of them from disappearing from caches. I'm not much of a teacher but I could bring my vast collection of these to show some of the types.
What about eats? Last time they had this there were a few that brought rolls and such. I can't remember who it was but someone also brought hot dogs for dinner. Just an idea?
Classes I would be willing to attend would be:
Intermediate GSAK
Creating advanced cache pages
Solving puzzle caches
Creating and installing Wherigo cartridges
Not sure what kind of plan you'll have for class order but if these were held at the same time I would prioritze these as; Wherigo, Advanced cache pages, Puzzle caches, Int. GSAK.
These are just my personal choices on classes and the powers that be still have to figure out which classes and what times they will work best for. _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!

I have this on the calendar. I also have a portable shelter that can be used. _________________ "We never seek things for themselves-what we seek is the very seeking of things"-Pascal |

I was thinking about having classes be around 45 minutes, which might be a bit long for something on Trackables, but maybe we need to have a few shorter classes...that might fit in, and as far as teaching goes, I think showing off your coins/bugs would be a good start, then telling people how to log them would be a good follow up.

They mentioned having some food, I'll check with them, but that is a good idea.

Any idea when the event will be submitted to SJ? When it does can you post a quick note on here so we know it's up. _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!

I am free that day and would love to help.
Incidentally, I developed a "Introduction to Geocaching" training for a class I'm taking in grad school this semester. I'd be happy to teach or co-teach that topic. The only other topic I could contribute some expertise is geocaching with smartphones, I use the Groundspeak app on my iPhone.
I would be happy to assist anyone teaching other topics as well. I enjoy putting together slides and other materials or can just lend an extra set of hands. |
