Wouldn't that be fun.. seriously. You've got the pull, let me know if you can work a deal.

Just curious, why do you consider all of the Mississippi south of St. Cloud to be too dangerous?

Maybe an exaggerated choice of words.. The mighty Miss is rather large and moves pretty swiftly once it gets that far south. Very intimidating to be getting in and out of canoes and kayaks in such conditions. It's also less condusive for hiding caches ON the river as there aren't many islands I am aware of until you get to the Hastings area.

i've gone from Coon Rapids dam to Boom Island...the river isn't bad if you don't paddle it right after the Spring thaw...

I was doing research on the Cannon Valley bike trail and noticed many caches near the Cannon river. Most by a cacher named bflentje. This looks like it would be a fun boat/canoe trip to do. Any thoughts? Thanks Surprised

If your implying I missed 2009, I did not miss it. I knew nothing about it. I first learned about group caching when I ran into Minstars late last year. He told me about WNC and MnGCA.

After reading past logs, I now know Cannon Falls was done last year. It would be nice if those that MISSED or didn't have the chance last year, do this one. Maybe a few of us can get together and work something out. I don't think there's a limit of one water caching event per year.

Only if it rains will Minnehaha be deep enough to paddle in. Your pushing your luck there.

I am not implying a thing. I am just telling you not to miss it. You'll have a good time.

How much interest would there be for a double-event day? Canoeing during the day, and then a camping event overnight? Canoeing would be at Miesville Ravine, camping at Byllesby Lake, both county parks in and around Cannon Falls. I'll provide the sweetcorn for both lunch and supper.

I would be even more interested if you could canoe to the campground. Have the Canoe event begin at the put in location, and the camping event at the end location of the float. IMHO

Cannon River, put in at Miesville Ravine. There's a campground in Welch. I'll look into it. Might need a chump to host the second event. Joe is saying that two events the same day by the same guy is frowned upon.

I believe two events, timed so that one leads to the next, is also frowned upon.

Then just make it one big event. Very Happy Camping and canoes go together. Problem solved ?

You could do a breakfast event the next day.

What about the cacnnon river, but a different section? There is a dam in Northfield and a dan going into lake bylsby, but would it be possible to make the paddle between them? There are a few islands for caches (the map says they are part of Carlton College, but at the very least, there are other caches hidden there, so it may not be an issue).

The paddle from Saint Cloud to Clearwater is very easy most of the season. I have done it many times without incident. It takes about 4 hours and there are several islands and even 2 campsites enroute.

Another nice paddle is just north of Saint Cloud. You can put in at the Blanchard Dam and paddle to Mississippi River Park. I have done that one as well. Nothing better.
