|Well winter has arrived and a new year for the MnGCA is upon us. Get your cross country skis, snowshoes, boots, gaiters and your cold weather caching clothes and get ready to have a great winter of caching.
I would like to thank the members that were on last year’s board for their service. Thanks to Joel, Bryan and Shawn for a great year. I would also like to welcome the new board members, Andrew, Carol, Kirsten. Jonas thanks for last years’ service and for servicing again on this year’s board.
We have an exciting year ahead and are really hoping to get member involvement with all the things that are going to be happening. One of the things you might have read about in the forums is the design of a 2010 MnGCA t-shirt. If you have an idea please feel free to submit it to the board by January 10th. We are also looking at forming the 2010 geocoin committee as well as the Spring event committee. If you have any interest in helping on any of the committees please contact the board or let a board member know you interest. This year could be a big year for the MnGCA’s coin as members NOSNOW, Shadow’s Friend, Clamm, Merkman, GPX Navigators and myself were successful in the bid to bring the MEGA Event, Geocoin Fest, to Minnesota.
Things that the board is working on and considering have board appointed regional MnGCA representatives that would be willing to help the MnGCA in their areas. Some of the reasons this is being considered is that as more parks and cities look at possibly having or implementing caching policies, it would be nice to have people that could represent the MnGCA and possibly meet with the groups that may be implementing the policies. We would also like to have host Breakfast Buddies events when in their area. With the growing popularity of geocaching it may be beneficial to have representatives that could work with the board.
One of the changes new members see is a welcome letter they get after signing up on the MnGCA site. The letter welcomes them and gives a few links to where they can find helpful information.
Remember the MnGCA is you and the board looks forward to hearing from the members and what they would like to see that will help further the mission of the MnGCA. I look forward to seeing you at events or along the trail.
