I didn't get any geocaching items for Christmas. I think that others in my life hope that if they ignore this malady it will wane and disappear. Tout le contraire, so it's off to the Internet mall for me. I'm looking for a very good headlamp to use when looking for caches in the woods and for skiing or biking at night if I cache a bit too late. I'd like to pay a sale price of under $50. Any suggestions. Idea

I think that everyone likes their cheap headlamp that they got off Woot.com last year. It was a cheap headlamp that I think sells for around $20. It was a Garrity 1 Watt Pivoting Luxeon LED Headlamp. I know that I am happy with mine and I have recommended it to others.

The headlamp that I use I got at Menards I belive it was $20.
It uses 2 or 3 AAA batterys.
also If I remember corretly it was made by energiser. It has 3 leds and it also has red leds.

Cheaper is better. About $20 sounds better than under $50. I'm after the best bang for the buck. Durable and something that is multi-purpose. I borrowed a petzl once. I'm not sure which model. It was nicer to use than my Mini-maglite!

The cheaper the headlamp the bigger the batteries. They can get a little uncomfortable and heavy. Mine has the giant battery pack in the back and gets annoying at times.

It looks like the design of the Garrity may have changed. Do you have one with the over the head strap and would it matter? Also, the lights are not within a circle but in a modified v-shape. Would that change your decision if you were buying a Garrity today?

Looking for a headlamp this appears to be the new replacement or businesses are just out of the other style. Does anyone ever use the red lights? I guess which one I decide on depends upon the use of the red lights.

I bought an Energizer 6-LED headlamp a couple of years ago and love it. It cost me about $20 and came with the 3 AAA batteries that I am still using (I'm sure they're almost done but they keep going). It isn't very heavy at all and is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I would definitely buy another for the price and quality. They sell them at Target, Wal-Mart and most department stores with a sporting goods department.
