There was a link to a free mapsource program. Does anyone remember what that is.

That only works if you have a mapsource product on the computer. There is a work around so I have heard... |

Start here if you don't have mapsource at all:
http://freegeographytools.com/2007/garmin-mapsource-for-free
Download the Training Center then install it. Then once this software is installed, you can download and install the MapSource update file, and the full version of MapSource will be up and running on your computer |

Thanks EP, I remember now. I think I sent you that link awhile back. _________________ Dinnae fash yersel (don't worry yourself) |

| even trying it this way didn't work for me.....I guess I am doomed to no mapsource. I had it for awhile and then something got corrupted and no matter what I do I get the same error of missing tigerdata and to reload just that....well how do I do that when I can't even find it? |

Andy,
What was that last little step that I was missing so that my gps would read my sd card and load the map? |

Was that selecting the map on mapsource from the menu then highlighting the areas? Then just download. _________________ Dinnae fash yersel (don't worry yourself) |

| I have the maps on an sd card (doing this for a friend) but when I put the card in his gps it doesn't recognize it. What am I doing wrong? |

Oh... You got me there. Maybe they have to down load it through their own gps. _________________ Dinnae fash yersel (don't worry yourself) |

It is tagged to the GPS serial number. Unless the maps are open unlocked you can not multiple load Garmin maps on different GPSr. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

| The maps were freebies from the ones you posted on another thread. What I ended up doing was copying my sd card to his. I had tried it before and it didn't work. I must have done something different and it worked this time. I couldn't get it to copy the topo map I have though so he's just getting the OSM roadmap and a bunch of caches! |

| I have another question. Can you download maps onto a gps that doesn't have an sd card, only internal memory? If so, then I'm missing a step on my latest gps upgrade for a friend. |

Although I'm not familiar with the newest models (Oregon, Colorado, etc), on older models this is not typically so. I believe older models that don't have an option for an SD card don't support maps other than what's built in.

Not true. My old Garmin GPSMap 76 had only built-in memory and you could install/update maps. _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."
