Subject: [GEO] the cleaner contacting you from Geocaching.com

dont bother with the boreas cache in mounds park that you tried for. it's gone
<--snip-->
The user appears to be an AOL user, based on his/her originating IP.
I replied to him/her and said:
"If you're really here to clean, do us a favour and take care of KB's Garbage Pail series instead of the Boreas Rex series.
Cheers,
-Aaron"
KB - Why don't you send him a note and let him know which ones he should focus on. I'm sure if you come at this guy with anger he's going to get off on it. Obviouslly someone has a bit much time. Why not hone his desires to something useful?

I have already alerted mtn-man. I figured using contact@ would take too long.

Thanks guys.
I'm gonna wait a day or so before I do anything. I can tell you this:
My thought yesterday, after cache #400, will probably not happen. _________________ Joined: 16 Dec 2002

The Cleaner is tired of worthless caches....if he/she deems your cache is crap....it will be cleaned....no need to thank me.
Hobbies:
I'm not out to wreck caches for people or the activity for others.
I am simply a fellow cacher that has had enough of people frivilously placing caches everywhere, not taking care of them, and not even trying to be imaginative. My purpose is to help other cachers enjoy this activity more by weeding out bad caches....especially by those that like to place as many as they can, taking up precious hiding spots that some one who has lived near that area could use, but can't because some people want big stats. Agree with me or not, I'm out there..cleaning up.
The cache is gone
IM from whatsagps:
is this Ian?
King Boreas: yep
whatsagps: hey there..yeah i just took a run down there....its gone..the dead wood covering it was ripped out too[/i] _________________ Joined: 16 Dec 2002

to the cleaner:
if your thinking your helping your not.....
Here i'm trying to promote geocaching to others.......
If these go people are out on their first hunt and they run across a stolen cache....not cool !!!!
How do you truely explain that to others?....some guy is out there trying to clean up bad caches....what gives you the right?
I realize I'm putting some of my caches in harms way by doing this but oh well...if your that shallow to hit them have at it.......pick them all up....just use the the ammo boxes and other containers in your caches.......
but lets figure this out....KB has over 400 caches out there...
cheap container .50 cents
pencil/pen .05 cents
logbook .15 cents
trinkets .20cents
=$360 bucks for those....and that is on an extremly low scale!!!!
don't forget gas, time spent, etc.......the guy has a crap load of travel bugs......
how much $$$$ has KB dumped into geocaching.......
I think he cares....
OK I agree some are not the best hides....but some are great....its a hit and miss Kinda deal.......
same with everybody else...he's just got more to complain about.....
but on the flip side....he got many to give props to as well..... |

I dont agree with this clowns actions- but as has been said
"To each his own"? and "everybody plays this game a little different"?
Wonder if some grand scheme could be concockted to put out a trap to catch this person? I bet KB would Love to have a "chat" with him/her.....
Keep your eyes open next KB hide you visit - just in case! |

I guess if I figure this all out right, what right does he have to say which cache is crap and which one is not. Some of this is a matter of opinion by each individual. As far as I am concerned "The Cleaner" is basically stealing other peoples property. We have a Terain rating and Difficulty rating, maybe we should have a unique rating or something like that and then maybe "The Cleaner" would not have to take things in his own hands.
Just my opinion.

Honestly, I thought he was making most of them out of things he had laying around already, or stuff he aquired for free. =)
i.e. Old cookie tin, wal-mart bag, etc...

a gross of golf pencils is 6.99 at Office Max
spiral notebooks can be found at some dollar stores for 3/$1.00
tins are .50 - $1.00 at Saver's
trinkets are $1.99 a bag at Saver's
ziplocks are .05 - .10 each at AX-MAN
walmart bags can be found at the park on the way to the cache
gas is easily siphoned from unsuspecting neighbors
