Hey, Bart, something else we have in common: a B.S. in Chemistry. Mine is from UMD, 1978.
Assuming gasoline is octane (C8H18) then 6.073 pounds of gasoline contains about 5.114 pounds of carbon. When it is oxidzed in an internal combustion engine the oxygen used comes directly from the air in the form of O2 molecules. Assuming the gasoline is completely oxidized (which it isn't) that would result in a MAXIMUM of about 18.75 pounds of CO2. _________________ Sig line? I don't need no stinking sig line! |
