Hybrid Travelbugs, custom made and tracked by second party web pages. These are some of the coolest Tbugs you'll ever see, if your lucky.
How do you get one?
Either find one in a cache...
Or, if you want to be the coolest kid on the block and be the first to release your own into the wild. The Texas and the Canadian flavors are available for purchase on there respective web sites listed below. I haven't seen one of the Texas or Canadian flavors in Minnesota...yet, but I do have one of the moun10bike Geocoins, and it's awesome.
Moun10bike http://www.geocaching.com/profile/default.asp?A=24 is one of the original founders of Geocaching. He had 150 or so geocoins custom made and has personally released most of them. They are tracked on the Geocaching web site as normal Tbugs. The only way to get one of these...is to find it. For more info on them, look at http://www.geocaching.com/track/find.asp?K=moun10bike , Or go to http://www.switchbacks.com/geocaching.html .
Looking to make you own...this is the place Moun10bike used. http://www.militaryspecialties.com
Have fun!!!

See -- He can't miss a chance to brag it up a bit Oh how he loves to rub it in!
So CB, are we to start expecting custom geo-coins from you pretty soon?
I had given a thought to getting something like that of my own (to send out with Tbugs I picked up) after I had a chat with Lady Bug at the last picnic, but they are fairly pricy unless you get a whole slew of them made.
I think she had looked into them before too.
Actually I think KB ought to look into something like that, eh? They are a MEDALLION after all........ |

The big thing with the geocoins is the initial cost to get the die made.
Unfortunatley, because of a recent crackdown by geocagching.com on their logo, you can't get the Moun10Bike coins anymore.
However, there is nothing preventing anyone from ordering their own coins with their own designs as long as the artwork is not based on the (copyright now being enforced) geocaching.com logo. |

I looked into this a little while ago as a fellow geocacher brought me a coin from an event that she went to in Oregon. This one was made by the canadian group. It seems the the cost is all in the cutting of the die. The initial cost is about $500 to set up the die and then about $3 - $5 per coin after that. I thought it would be cool to have some made with our logo on them, but I think the cost may be too prohibitive unless we can come up with a fund raiser... |
