Springs of the Twin Cities
presented by Greg Brick – Ph.D. Student, Department of Geology & Geophysics


Abstract
An informal journey along the spring lines of the Twin Cities, with a few caves thrown in. Far better known back in pioneer days, when they were used for drinking water, many of the springs of the Twin Cities have fallen into obscurity and could only be located after extensive search by the author. The U of M Campus itself was supplied by the Varsity Spring, long since vanished. Historical, geological, and biological aspects will be considered.


About our speaker
Greg Brick, employed for years as an environmental consultant, is a second year PhD student in the Department of Geology & Geophysics at the University of Minnesota. He has been documenting the springs of the Twin Cities since the early 1990s and is a frequent contributor to the Minnesota Ground Water Association Newsletter. His second book, Subterranean Twin Cities, will be published by the University Press in April 2009.
