Just curious what your thoughts are on group hides and logging of them. For example, my brother and I have 2 caches that we hid together. So, I "own" one and he "owns" the other on gc.com. But everytime I run a pocket query for that area it shows up as the closest unfound cache?
So, in cases like this should/can you log the cache?
What say you? _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

Esko and I own one multi like this. I own the listing and hid stage 1 (sorry for those who have done it) and he owns stage 2. Neither of us were present when the other hid their respective stage. I've logged it (when I found stage 2) and I believe he has logged it too.
It's all how you play the game. To me it was a cache that I hadn't found (albeit not a multi) so I logged it, regardless of ownership. |

I went with Lbungert to place some of his island caches so he had someone to paddle with. I also logged those as finds, BUT I didn't until I took Roxygen and paddled out there on a separate occasion. The hides for them arent terribly difficult, the point was to paddle (or trek accross ice) to get them. Once I fullfilled that on my own, I felt ok logging them.
Another option in general is to place the cache with another cacher, wait a year, and then go find it. Chances are it will be in a different location. In fact, I have a pine tree cache (no comments need to be made about this ) that was actually replaced in the WRONG tree. The thing was small enough as it is (the camo made the difference), and it took forever to find it. |

| Yes, I would log it if I don't own it. But if I log the find at the same time it was hidden, I would reserve the FTF spot for the actual FTFer. I can't say this has happened for me though more than twice. |

I'm glad this was started. Many of my hides have been placed BECAUSE others were along. When on a road trip with a group, I might hide a cache while they search for one. When we meet up, I'll give them the coordinates, and tag along.
The log will be signed with an open spot for FTF.
It doesn't matter who, and there have been several, but why should they drive 80 miles in the future, to find a cache that they're 1000 feet away from?
Heh, I get better coordinates too. |

I co-own a couple of caches. One of the is with Pear Head which I have logged and one is in the Black Hills with DakotaHillbillies which I haven't and will not log.
I was deeply involved with the one in the Black Hills and saw its construction, layout, and final location. Since it was three of us that put that one together and we were all involved in its placement and we all saw it hidden, I couldn't justify claiming that I "found it".
Pear Head and I co-own a cache. Since I wasn't present when he put that $%#@* nano on the locomotive, nor did he inform me as to its location, AND since I found it in the dark without a flashlight, I logged it as a find. The only thing I knew about the first stage was the coordinates.
The difference being that I felt one was a justified since I had look for it just like any other cache and the other I had hidden for all practical purposes. |

Wouldn't adding the cache to your "ignore" list do the same thing? |

Not a multi, and the stage you found was about 1000 times bigger than the one you hid! Maybe more... |

| If I helped hide a cache, I would not log th find, as I did not "find" it. I had this situation on one cache that we hid as a Golden Cache for a fellow cacher celebrating his 1000th find. There was a group of about five of us that went out to hide it. It is very close to where I live, so it would normally keep showing up on my PQs. So, I just clicked the Ignore Listing on the cache listing page and no more showing up on the PQs. Simple as that. |

That's the beauty of geocaching. You get to ignore it and I get to log it and everyone is happy. |
