We received this volunteer request from Carver County Parks. If anyone is able to assist her, please reply here and contact her directly. We, the board, have training materials printed out and can make those available to anyone that wishes to provide any training or workshops. We also now have business cards that promote the MnGCA that can be given out at events or left in caches.

I am the intern with Carver County Parks and I am organizing a summer camp
for August 10th-13th for children in grades 4-6. The theme is outdoor
adventure and I would really like to give the kids an introduction to
geocaching. Do you have any volunteers in your association that may be
able to come out for a day or two and give the kids and geocaching lesson?
Also, do you know where one would be able to rent GPSs or buy them for
really cheap?
FOLLOWUP:
Thank you for the response. The camp is being held August 10th-13th at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park in Chanhassen. I'm thinking that I would like someone to come out either Tuesday August 11th or Wednesday August 12th from 10am-noon. Do you believe that would be enough time for an activity? Also, would we be finding caches that are in the park or could you place some specifically for the activity with the kids?
I would greatly appreciate a post of this information to your forums.

Quick follow up:

| As far as parking goes, the volunteer would either be provided with a daily permit which would be paid for by the parks, or they would be issued a temporary permit for the time they are in the parks. Either way, the volunteer will not be asked to pay for anything. |

| I might be able to assist with this. I have a cache in that park anyway. |

Great! I'm hoping to help with this one too as it's close to me, but in case I can't, I've got materials that I'm happy to share. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

| We might want to place some new caches in the park. Unless there are puzzle caches that I don't know about, my cache is currently the only one in the park. |

I was thinking of putting out a bunch of temps as the park as the regulations only allow for 3 "real" caches total in Minnewashta. I've been working with them a bit to try and get them to open that up, but so far no changes to the regulations. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

| Yes. Thank you in those efforts since that is such a huge park. The same goes for Carver Regional. |

What was great about this event is it offered up the opprutunity to take this up with them again. They seem very open to discussing this again. _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

James, did they pick a date and time? If not, I can email them and find out.
Thanks! _________________ Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. |

Yes!
Tuesday August 11th (10am-noon): Introduction to geocaching and GPS
Thursday August 13th (noon-2pm): Searching for temp. caches
If anyone is willing to help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to figure out how I will be able to talk about geocaching and GPSr's without a powerpoint for two hours.
So, if anyone would like to help and has any ideas.... please feel free! _________________ ~~ I was told all I needed was a GPS. I wanted everything else. ~~ |
