http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061222/lf_nm/germany_satnav_dc
In October a 53-year-old German, obeying his satnav's command "Turn right now!" jerked the wheel over and crashed into a roadside toilet hut 30 metres (yards) before the crossing he was meant to take, causing 2,000 euros ($2,600) damage.
A few weeks earlier, an 80-year-old motorist also followed his satnav instead of common sense and ignored a "closed for construction" sign on a Hamburg motorway. He hit a pile of sand at high speed but was not hurt.
In southern England a 29-year-old woman survived unscathed after misreading her satnav and driving the wrong way on a motorway near Portsmouth at nearly 120 km (75 miles) per hour, according to a local newspaper.
When stopped after 22 km of dodging oncoming traffic, she told police she had only followed the satnav orders. |

It's worth reading the whole article... The quoted parts are only half of the fun. _________________ Hmm... |

Not directly related, but I'll type it out anyway....
A few years ago I used maps.yahoo.com to find out the mileage from the Twin Cities to Thunder Bay, Ontario. I was shocked to see it was 900 miles. Then I see it routed me through Winnepeg. We still drove to Thunder Bay but I took a lot longer, and a lot more gas, than I thought it would. |

Maybe it's not so dumb I spend hours parked on the interstate during rush hour. |

Haha, that gives a whole new meaning to "rush hour cache 'n' dash!" |

there is a bike path near my house that my tomtom navigator thinks is a street, so every time I navigate from home it tells me to turn down the bike path.

Convoy rescued after GPS led them to Utah cliff
http://fe25.news.re3.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20080806/ap_tr_ge/travel_brief_lost_convoy
A GPS device led a convoy of tourists astray, finally stranding them on the edge of a sheer cliff.
With little food or water, the group of 10 children and 16 adults from California had to spend a night in their cars deep inside the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
They used a global positioning device to plot out a backcountry route Saturday from Bryce Canyon National Park to the Grand Canyon.
But the device couldn't tell how rough the roads were. One vehicle got stuck in soft sand, two others ran low on fuel. And the device offered suggestions that led them onto the wrong dirt roads, which ended at a series of cliffs. |

I have yet to hear of one that will tell you it's time to get fuel. That decision requires the little rat and the exercise wheel between your ears. _________________ Hmm... |

Emphasis mine.

| My little brother, when learning to drive circa 1990, blindly obeyed by dad's screamed instructions to "turn right! Turn RIGHT, Tim!" and drove our van into a ditch 30 feet before the actual instersection. |

| My City Navigator 2007 has a knack for finding the unaccessible back doors to all of the state parks.. usually miles from where I am actually supposed to enter. I have since started preplanning my approaches. |
