|
|
July 20 is designated as Lake Superior Day, a time to celebrate the Big Lake.
The Lake Superior Binational Forum, coordinator of Lake Superior Day events, has donated several new Earth Day 2008 coins to help celebrate Lake Superior Day in and around Duluth.
To help them out, I have placed two new “Hidden Stream” geocaches that, if all goes well, will be published this weekend. I am also placing two unactivated coins in existing caches around Duluth, and will be providing clues to their whereabouts over the next few days. Hopefully this will get the Duluth cachers out (like they need an excuse), bring other cachers up to the area, and maybe even create a few new geocachers!
BTW – this got a bit of coverage in Tuesday's Duluth News Tribune
– the site also lists other Lake Superior Day events in Duluth.
Stay tuned to this thread for clues – the first being that the cache should provide a great view of Lake Superior (darn, I gave it away…) |

This sounds great! I'm fairly new to caching -- I live in Duluth. I'd love to get out there with some more experienced cachers. Does anybody ever get together from the forums to cache?
If so, I'd love to tag along some time. Thanks & maybe I'll see you on the trail! |

| Hi Casper29, indeed we do! Do you have a GPS yet? I'll PM you with some good 'starter' caches in the area. |

OK here we go - I'm off to drop the coins and then some clues! Unfortunately, most of these will be published in bad rhyme:
The caches are out now, don't you know,
now it's up to Surfer Joe.
and
The coins are still all in my pocket,
I'll find a cache and then I'll stock it. |

Casper and Ghost both cache on the north shore and they haven't visited the same haunts yet? _________________ -Paklid |

| Due to unforseen circumstances involving a fishing boat and low battery voltage, the release of geocoins for Sunday's Lake Superior Day will be delayed till tomorrow afternoon. |

Haha - I didn't catch that either!
I've love to get out there with others who know what they're doing.
When works for you? |

OK at last an update on the Lake Superior Day caches - first, congratulations to Agatedude and DLHCacher for being FTFs on the two new caches - good finds!
Turns out I ended up spending Lake Superior Day on Lake Superior and in the St. Louis River. Started early by fishing from bridge to down past Proctor - (do you know you can see the arches from the Proctor McDonald's from down on the water?). That gave me a chance to think about all those caches on the along the hillside from Proctor to the bridge. Then I got an offer to take a sailboat cruise, toured the harbor, then went out on the big water, and looked at all those caches out toward Lester River - some you could throw a rock from the cache to the water! Finally we took in a Huskies game - things finally broke loose in the 8th inning, which included a fake bunt that the batter that popped over the 3rd baseman's head, it was great.
But, to get to the point, all this made me late in getting the coins out, and even later in getting to the clues. But they're out there now - stay tuned! |

One coin’s high and one coins low
But none are in the village though
Search if you can but don’t get lost
Apologies to Robert Frost
One place quiet one lively
You’ll have to watch for poison ivy
Both have log books now quite full
And swag a-plenty, you’ll think it cool
One is placed among the rocks
You won’t look hard to see some docks
The other’s where some bushes root
The owner’s head is not a fruit
You’ll have a view of all the lake
Your legs will burn, your lungs will ache
You’ll wish this cache had been rescinded
EskoClimber’s barely winded
If you don’t want to search these blindly
PM your guess, I’ll answer kindly |
