Hey all,

For those actively reading this forum section (and those looking for Cache of the Month info), you may have noticed a couple weeks back that I mentioned I would be interested in taking on the Cache of the Month process…so, as it turns out, the time has come!!! Thanks to all that have been patient through this process and willing to wait until we got things straightened out…as well as those that have expressed support!!!

Though my MNGCA registration shows November of 07, I have been actively caching since July of 06 and have been lurker on the MNGCA forums before then…just never got around to officially joining the site until November (have become more interested in being involved with the MNGCA). I look forward to working with everyone and keeping the Cache of the Month going.

Seeing the work that those before me have put into the process, there are a couple things I would like to remind each other about…keep in mind, I do not know the entire “history” of COTM, but I did some quick research here for this write-up…if I missed anything, please let me know so I can work it in...

1) All nominee threads will be announced/opened on the 1st of the month. However, the voting will not open until the last week of the month, to close at midnight on the last day of the month. I hope this delay will help continue the pattern of those voting to be able to try and find the nominated caches prior to voting.

2) You can submit nominations via PM through MNGCA.org or email them directly to me at ArcherDragoon@yahoo.com.

-Nominations need to be written in a way that gives the reader a spoiler-free description of what make the cache special. Please include the Cache Owner, Cache Name and Waypoint with your nomination.

-Nominated caches must be available for visiting at the time of nomination. Temporarily Unavailable and Archived caches will be rejected.

-You can not nominate your own cache
-You can only nominate 1 cache per month
-You can not nominate a cache which was in the running (up for voting in the poll) in the previous month. (Please wait at least two months later to re-nominate a cache).
-Only caches in the State of Minnesota are eligible
-MNGCA board and site webmasters reserve the right to reject nominations based on content…also reserve the right to alter the text of the nomination for spelling, grammar and punctuation
-Duplicate nominations will be combined into one nomination with both submitter’s articles included

Now, for this month, since we are into June 8th…I will post the nominated caches I have received by June 18th or when I have received 3-5 nominations. This gives everyone at least a week and a half to nominate caches…especially with the new “management”!!! Voting will then open up June 24th and continue until June 30th (seven full days of voting)!!!

Thank-you,
ArcherDragoon

Hey Folks,

I am going to try and answer a couple questions that have been asked in some recent threads...

January Cache of the Month is...
GC14F9N: Laptop Special by Don Cacheote with inspiration from GPSr

February Cache of the Month is...
GC17T6R: Similar Bermuda Triangles by KBayNPapaBear

March Cache of the Month is...
GC12M4W: Film Container by nudlez

April Cache of the Month is...
GC17N00: Lying Eyes by MNmonarchs

I am using the recent threads to fill in those four months. The January and March winners were the winners of those particular months with February and April being the runnersup. Should I receive more then the current one nomination for the June Cache of the Month, I plan to fill in May with the same…if I do not receive more nominations for June (again, I only have one nomination), May will remain blank. Let’s not let the surrounding states show us up…we can do better with our cache of the month contest!!! Let’s show off our State and what it has to offer with some special caches!!! Please spread the word about cache of the month at events and cachers you meet…let’s spread the word about the MNGCA!!!

I will post what I have for nominations for the month of June on the 18th…if you have caches you would like to nominate…please get them to me as soon as possible.

Later,
ArcherDragoon

Hey all,

Ok, I have three nominations for June Cache of the Month. I will be posting those nominations soon (I do have June 18th set as a deadline for June nominations). With that said...we have July right around the corner. If you have a cache that you would like to nominate for July, please PM me or email ArcherDragoon@yahoo.com...

Keep the following in mind...
1) Clearly state whether you are nominating a cache for June or July (at this moment since we have both nominations going on)...

2) With all nominations, please include the Cache Name and Waypoint (owner name is appreciated...but I can look that info up)...

3) Be sure to include a short description as to why you are nominating a cache. If all I receive is a name and a waypoint, I will contact you and ask for a description. This may sound harsh, but, without a brief description I will not accept the nomination (at least a sentence...but I would preffer something a bit longer...I honestly think we are capable of writing a couple sentences or a nice paragraph). Again, we are trying to show what makes Minnesota caches fun and enjoyable...a name and a waypoint alone does not do that.

Thanks,
ArcherDragoon

Are we including the state park caches in with this. Not saying that any will get nominated, but of the ones i've been to I thought they were decent caches in more scenic areas of the state. Thought I'd ask if it did come up.

IMHO I say why not but I think in that instance the cacher that helped to place it should get some reconition. not just the state park.

As we all know we had some hard working and helpful cachers in on that endever.

I think they all did a great job BTW.

Regarding the State Park History Challenge Caches...sure, why not!!! I would also agree with Casinoman...should give credit to the cachers that helped with those where it is due (I believe there were some parks that didn't have a cacher)...

Hey Folks,

I am just working on putting some things together for myself and the Cache of the Month Forum. I know a lot of this was stated to start this particular thread…and throughout the thread, but I wanted to have it all in one spot for everyone.

1) You can submit COTM nominations to me using one of the following three methods…however, keep in mind I will accept nominations at anytime through either of the first two methods below…
-Send me a Private Message through MNGCA.org
-Send me an Email at ArcherDragoon@yahoo.com
-Post a nomination in the appropriate thread (explained below-“Nominations” thread)

2) When making a nomination, keep the following in mind…
-Nominations need to be written in a way that gives the reader a spoiler-free description of what make the cache special. You must include the Cache Owner, Cache Name and Waypoint with your nomination. Your nomination must also include a brief write-up for the cache (at least a sentence...but I would prefer something a bit longer...I honestly think we are capable of writing a couple sentences or a nice paragraph)
-If all I receive is a Name and Waypoint, I will not accept the nomination. Again, we are trying to show what makes Minnesota caches fun and enjoyable...a name and a waypoint alone does not do that
-Nominated caches must be available for visiting at the time of nomination. Temporarily Unavailable and Archived caches will be rejected.
-You can not nominate your own cache
-You can only nominate 1 cache per month
Note Regarding a Series of Caches: Only one cache in the series can be nominated at a time…(One nomination can be submitted per person per month)…If you wish to highlight a series, I will do my best to add links to all caches of the series, but it will be the responsibility of the person making the nomination to choose one of those caches and explain what makes it special. If a specific cache of the series is not named, again, I will not accept the nomination (I will try not to get into the habit of making assumptions about individual caches and/or series of caches).
-You cannot nominate a cache that was in the running (up for voting in the poll) in the previous month.

3) Posting COTM Threads…these are the following goals I have set for myself regarding Cache of the Month
-I will open up a “Nominations” thread at least 15 days prior to the next month. Example: I will try to open a thread around June 15th for the purpose of folks submitting nominations for the Month of July
-I will open up an official “Nominees” thread the first week of the month (my goal is to open up such a thread the 1st of each month).
-I will open up an official “Voting” thread the last 7(seven) days of the month. Example: June Cache of the Month voting will take place June 24th through June 30th. I will officially announce the winner at the conclusion of voting.

Thanks,
ArcherDragoon
