Sunday morning:
PQ's all seem to be running at GC.com but many emails are not being sent out. I had 5 PQ's run at about 2:15 a.m. but only received 1 email. |

Geocaching.com posted its millionth cache this weekend.
Jeremy tweeted "We hit the millionth active geocache over the weekend! As of midnight Pacific we have 1,001,001 active geocaches."
Let's see I have 1100 found. That means I have found 0001% of all caches. <sigh> So many caches, so little time. _________________ If you're successful in what you do over a period of time, you'll start approaching records, but that's not what you're playing for. Actually you've found less than what you think of all caches... They have 1 million active caches, but there are many more than that if you include the inactive caches. _________________ Hmm... |

So has anybody ever gotten this message on geocaching.com?
"Whoa! Slow Down
You've been redirected to this page because the site hamsters noticed you are viewing pages faster than humanly possible. There are several reasons why this may be happening:
You may have installed an add-in for your browser that is doing things you don't see.
You are using some automated tools to pull information on the site.
You have super human abilities.
What You Can Do
Stop! Have a cup of coffee, glass of water or go out geocaching. We'll let you back in shortly.
Disable any add-ons to your browser, like Greasemonkey, that may be hitting the site too fast.
Stop using automated tools to access the site. Like Mos Eisley Cantina, we don't allow droids here.
To the Super Humans
We're jealous! Hopefully you are the hero types and not the villains, but we don't judge. Just don't steal geocaches.
However, if you could be so kind as to slow down your super surfing, it would help our servers respond to other users that don't have super strength, speed, or tight fitting leotards." |

I have used droids to access the site and haven't seen this message. Maybe it's a new thing, or maybe my tools are slowed down enough to avoid this. I usually use a one second delay between accesses. |

It was on April 2, I think. I did find information in the groundspeak forums in the release notes from the recent upgrade:
41102
Servers not keeping up with site traffic
Added 14.3 additional hampsters to the wheels, and one "Super Hampster"
It was frustrating, I wasn't able to pull up cache pages for the rest of the night. Wondering how long it was going to lock me out. If this was an April Fools thing, then I've been fooled!! |
