While I have been drooling over the idea of buying myself a new Garmin GPSMAP 76(S) and then seeing them in action at this past weekend's event (I hate you Moe) I just came across this brand-new Garmin coming out.
While I have no real need for color mapping because I have Streets and Trips/PocketStreets this is certainly a nice unit. I really want a quad-helix antenna.

Expected Availability:
1st Quarter 2004
You would think they would get their act together in time to bring it out for Christmas wouldn't you?
Nice unit! Lots of nice features. |

There has been a thread about the rumor of these new units on the gc.com boards for the last month or two. I'm glad that Garmin has now officially announced them.
I can't wait to see what the color display looks like. I have a hard time seeing the maps on my GPSMAP76 while I'm driving. If the color screen is easier to read, I'll be seriously considering an upgrade.

Why, because I went back and found "Seven Mile Creek"? _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

Open up an old thread here but I did sell my Vista and have put on order the GPSMap60CS. I am told that I have my order in time for the first shipment which is expected the first week of February. I hope as I am out of a GPS until I get my new one and I am just lost without it.

| I just looked on the garmin page for the GPS map 60cs and it is awesome! I want one but at $600, I might have to wait awhile after my garmin V dies. Thanks for the link SB. |

RJ.
The GPSMap60CS runs about $420.00 from most of the retailers. GPSdiscount had them for 418.00 plus shipping.

I found the 60c for $405 on amazon but they didn't have the 60cs. What is the main difference b/n the two?
--Edit--
I just went to gpsdiscount.com and saw the 60cs for $418 like you said thcri. I noticed it has an electronic compass and barometer. I want one!!! |

Yeah I just wished Garmin would send some out so I can have a GPS in my hand again. I sold my Vista too early as I was first told the first week of February. As far as I know, Gpsdiscount is the only retailer out there that has extra ones available for the first shipment. The other retailers did not have enough on order to fill their first order so them people will have to wait until the second shipment. But I am just like a little kid waiting for christmas.

My GPSMAP60c came a little over a week ago and it's great ! I found it online at an Archery store for $388 shipped. I just started geocaching when it came because it has a few geocaching specific pages which I'm sure you've all seen advertised. It's pretty slick, you go to geocaching.com and download a bunch of caches in a few seconds with the USB connection and the little closed treasure chests pop up all over your map. When you find one the chest opens up and it puts the find in your calendar. Almost to easy. The first set of batteries lasted about 14 hours but I use the backlight quite a bit and have had it out in the cold. I love the color screen. The basemap is good on the freeways with all the exits and towns listed but a bit sparse otherwise. I'm trying to decide which additional maps to download to it. For those of you that fish it will accept Minnesota Lakemaster maps with 3 ft contours if you can get past the $200 pricetag for the software! I'll shut up now, this thing is great!

The Garmin 100000000 XLCS4 probably 1GB of memory, USB2, and Qwerty keyboard for WLAN access.
One can dream.

I am seriously thinking of canceling my 60CS and waiting for the 76CS. It has more memory and a lot more maps preloaded over the 60CS. My problem is I don't have a GPS right now and not sure I want to wait for the second quarter of 2004 for a nice unit.
