Are you listing them on geocaching.com too and if not, why? _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

A couple of reasons.
A - Many of my best geocaches have been stolen by a local geocacher (not in Minnesota). The really good, really well-camoed, hard to find, impossible to muggle geocaches.
B - Flexibility. I am severely limited in the creativity of caches I can place on GC.com. I have no such limits on other sites.
I can list Virtual, Task, Moving, Unknown, Temperary and Locationless caches now.
C - GC.com has saturated many parks to the point where no new caches are allowed. I don't have that problem anymore. 528' no longer means anything. If I find an incredibly interesting location, I can place a cache there without hesitation. There's a great spot with a scenic view at the site of a geocache, but the geocache is a poorly maintained mess? I can't place a GC.com cache there, but I can certainly place a virtual at that spot (or a physical cache if I want to draw attention to the junky one). |

Well, it's unfortunate that the majority of geocachers won't get to see your "best" caches. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

| It's only unfortunate for them. Doesn't matter to me if only a handful find them. Besides, I wouldn't assume that only a handful will find them. |

Navicache finds are not going to be included in geocaching stats. For most people that's not of life-or-death importance, but some disregard Navicache for that reason. As for me, I just never think to check it. Maybe I should. _________________ Sig line? I don't need no stinking sig line! |

it's unfortunate that one edited, wrecks if for the others. then again, every sport has that edited, so to speak.
i also don't ever check, and didn't even know about this navicache website until this thread.
time will tell if i use it.
Peace,
Joboo

| I've heard of it, tried it, but don't use it. For geocaching, geocaching.com is the format that won the beta war. I suppose I shouldn't have discounted it so fast.. |

For me I knew it was there but have discounted it for several reasons.
1. Only 164 caches listed for the entire state of Minnesota.
2. Only 74 caches listed for the entire metro area.
3. Only 60 caches listed within 50 miles of my house.
2. Of the first 25 listed, I know for a fact that 18 have been disabled on gc.com which doesn't necessarilly mean that they are not there but then again doesn't mean that the are. Particularly when they are listed as missing on gc.com
3. Based upon the name I'd estimate that 75% are listed on both sites.
It appears to me that the hiders who list on navicache do not maintain their listings as well as they do on gc.com. _________________ Airborne All the Way! |

I don't want to turn this into an anti-Navicache thread, but this is one of the reasons I don't care for Navicache.
Gc.com restricts caches to 528' so that a park does not become saturated with caches. This, IMHO, is a good thing. Having a second cache listing service that doesn't respect the 528' between caches defeats the purpose of the 528' rule which, in many cases is annoying, but overall I believe to be a good thing. One of the reasons gc.com gives for the 528' rule is so that there isn't confusion about which cache you found when hunting for a cache. I think many of us have seen logs or posts where the finder found something that they thought was the cache but actually was not.
The numbers AA just provided are another reason I don't follow the site, although everything starts small and works to be big. _________________ Hmm... |

They respect those guidelines, they just aren't in tune with geocaching.com and expect more from the cache hiders than we are seeing here.
If you know there is another cache less than 528' away, I don't suggest hiding another on navicache just because you can. *shrug*. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |
