With the luck I've been having caching lately, you guys don't want me on your team! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

So what are we bringing and what route are we taking?
I have the stove, two propane tanks for it (probably won't need even a whole one), and the large cooler (in addition to my own crap). Do I need to bring anything else?
What route are we taking? JT said last night straight down through IA then over and down again... Are we taking the shorter route back?
Did we decide for sure on the bikes?

OK.... Using DeLorme Street Atlas here is what I have come up with for the route down....
Minneapolis South to Mason City to
Cedar Falls to Cedar Rapids to
Iowa City over to Kewanee South to Springfield
Through Saint louis and down to Hawn State Park.
As for the route back, we could go straight north up into WI and across, but that is up to the group.... Ideas???
Sounds like Silent Bob has the camping crap squared away.... The only other thing I think that might be nice to have with is a Colemn gas lantern. Since we might not roll into the camp until after dark, etc....
Bikes are a go, I was hoping to try the carrier last night at the event, but since towelbooth was a no show..... He and I should probably meet up sometime this week to give it a whirl.
Thoughts? |

I only have a flourescant lantern for my tent. Someone else will have to bring the propane ones for outside.

How far from the route are we willing to travel to get caches? There are 70 caches within 1 mile of the route on the way down (from the border of MN/IA to the event itself) _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

It has a route w/70 caches on it. They are all within 1 mile of the route that S&T drew up for my address to the campground at Hawn State Park. Even though it is a route you can just use EasyGPS like you normally would. It will send all 70 waypoints and they will be accessable like any other cache info.
Now, you fancy fools w/your blinging GPSs that read extended info. This is only going to show the waypoint name. Sorry, S&T doesn't keep it as nice as a GPX from GC.com.
Let me know if that is acceptable.

I can bring a bow saw if we think it might be handy for cutting up kindling.
I plan to stop at AAA tomorrow (not AA) to pick up a set of tour books. If nothing else, they may help us find places to eat along the way.
I've got a bad headache tonight so I don't feel up to fiddling around with the gpx files but I'll check them out tomorrow.
And finally... The weather forecast for Saint Louis later in the week is starting to look up! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

You *could* use one of my tools written in that awful shell and awk to convert your list of cache ID's to GPX with the cache name and URL also in it.
First, make a file 'gids.txt' with just the GC.... cache ID's in it. Then:
| Code: |
$ geo-gid -ogpx -Otrip.gpx `cat gids.txt`
|
Note those are backquotes. |

My GPS doesn't show that info anyway and you read too much /.

As promised, I picked up some AAA tour books and road maps this noon. I know, I know, paper maps are obsolete, but I'd like to see you use your GPSr or laptop for kindling! _________________ "Hi, I'm Moe, or as the women know me - Hey! You in the bushes."

Thanks Moe.
I will have the GPX for the return route probably done tonight or possibly tomorrow. I am going caching w/Tixer tonight and doing some cleaning/laundry so the route caches might take a backseat.
Moe did you get my email yesterday?
