I've been tinkering with a new website that let's you put your geocaches up for public scrutiny, to be rated by the general public. You've heard of geochecker.com. Well, this is similar in its simplicity.
www.ratethiscache.com
Feel free to give it a try. Not exactly sure how far I'll take the website. I guess it depends on what kind of use it gets. |

We have always used the feed back from the logs as a rating for our Cache hides. When somebody takes the time to write how much they enjoyed the Cache, thats a good rating. If we get a SL TFTC log, we take it 2 ways. Either they didn't enjoy our Cache, or they are too lazy to write any kind of review. Either way we take it as a bad review. This will work the same way with the web site, when you rely on other peoples ambition to get somethong done, the results aren't always what you expect. _________________ Onions the real man's Vegetable |

This is a wonderful idea!!!
Can you make a list of the caches that are in your DB sorted by rank?
It would be nice to be able to find some top ranked caches. |

The possibilities are endless. First, it needs to get used enough to collect useful data. If I see it getting used by the public at large it would be nothing to convince me to keep updating it. |

Have you posted this on the national forums?
Maybe you don't want to they can be pretty rough there? |

There's a similar system for European caches, pretty messy when it came to usability. I have no idea if there are others out there. I know there are a ton of domain names registered with this idea in mind. My top 10 choices were already taken.. and the domain names are parked with no content. |

bjflente - this is very cool! I have posted a caches (and now have a pretty good rating ).
I agree that it would be neat to have a listing of those caches in the system.
I immediately thought of ways to make this more complicated (ranking different aspects of the cache (puzzle/design/cache quality), but I'll let you pursue that! It's a neat idea.
"Standard of Deviation" is just "Standard Deviation" |

I thought of expanding it to this level and just may tinker with it this weekend. |

I believe at the moment you were posting your message I was tinkering with the database. It should be up.
I've redesigned the system to allow for container rating, hide rating, puzzle rating and overall rating. I'll upload the code tomorrow sometime.
But I see from all of the finders on my Halloween caches that no one is really paying attention to the rating system.. Do I make it more in your face or do I not even waste my time? I am thinking external access with some kind of localized list to choose a cache to rate might make it more appealing. |

Your result screen should show the scale too. Ie. is a 5 good or bad? The numbers on the screen are just relative without the what they mean. _________________ Hmm... |
