I was fooling around with Gmap Pedometer which allows you to basically draw a route on a Google Map and it will determine the distance. I don't feel like carrying my GPS with me when I walk the dog or go out w/the wife around town so this will do fairly well for my estimation needs.

After I was finished creating the route it asked if I wanted to save it as a GPX. Gmap Pedometer suggested that I use GMaptoGPX to do so.

Pretty neat stuff out there for fooling w/Google Maps.
