They're nothing more than virtual events. No thought and very little planning required (as they have been recently -- that could always change) and from what I can tell the only point is to get another stat in about 15 minutes. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |

Well, someone told me that they were similiar to "flash mobs", which I always thought were a cool idea. It would only be interesting if we had a fair number of people in a public place. I certainly wouldn't show up just to get another stat. |

Once again it's not about numbers anyways.
I guess if it isn't about numbers, what is it about? I guess it's about whatever you as a person get enjoyment out of.
I've always tried to stay open to new ideas in the caching world, or even outside it, like I've enjoyed (though yes, have been frustrated with sometimes) the promotions held in town loosely based on caching. I.E. the Montana promotions, the Magellan contests, the Chippewa Valley event (probably the most geocaching based promotion), and yes, even medallion hunts.
Anyways, I'm not sure if micro coin events would garter the same allure as one large geocoin event. Mainly because at a large event, coin manufacturers can attend and have promotions to hand out, that sort of thing. I don't see getting any sort of freebies at a micro coin event, if even a limited coin only available to event attenders. |

They might be similar only in the fact that you show up somewhere at a planned time and then disappear shortly thereafter but I don't really see the point as Flashmobs were only cool in 2003 and don't need to reappear as geocaching events 4 years later.
(old man rant):
Hey, it's geocaching, do what you want but I'm just saying that they're silly. WNC was created with a "micro event" idea (an event that's planned with little coordination so that people can meet quickly) but the stats come from finding a couple of caches too -- not just showing up and then leaving just as quickly. _________________ Sad state of affairs. |
