A milestone has been reached! This is my final Cacheside Chat ever. I can hear the cheers now.

The quick overview here: MNDNR policies from the Parks and the Forests, MnGCA Nominations, Fall Cache Bash 2k6, and the General Elections Meeting.

Old Business:

Quote:
We are having the first non-election vote for the MnGCA that I know of at the MnGCA Cannonball Wilderness Run. If you are a registered MnGCA Member as of 12/10/05 you are eligible to vote. If you’re already an MnGCA Member and you would like more information on the vote please read up on it here: http://www.mngca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2324

Results:

1. The MnGCA will contact parks districts that have policies already, those that contact us looking for a policy, or those that have raised concerns and have been referred to the MnGCA by others.

2. We have reduced the number of months required to be a member before you can vote from six to three months.

3. We have left in the Bylaws requirement to have prior Board service to become President.

Quote:
We have begun talks with Anoka County’s intern who is doing a “geocaching feasibility study” for the county. We’ve provided her with links to other state policies as well as studies done on the national level for the USFS. We’ve given her information and data that we have compiled and presented to numerous other parks districts that shows total number of cachers, total number of caches (statewide and metrowide), as well as average frequency of visits/month.

We are still waiting to hear back about this. I have e-mailed and spoken with Anoka County Parks personnel and they are currently working on other projects but will get back to us when they can.

Quote:
Don’t forget that elections are coming up soon and that in order to be eligible to vote you must sign up as an MnGCA Member by 7 days following the Spring Event (or six months, whichever is less). Depending on the date of the Fall Event, that will likely be June 17th, 2006.

The nominations have taken place and the forum area is now open to all MnGCA Members to view the goings on. It is locked for archival purposes.

Absentee ballots have been going out and should probably not be requested from here out due to the turn around required.

Quote:
We are looking for someone to take over Cache of the Month nominations and postings for Pear Head. If you are at all interested in continuing this monthly (mostly) feature forward, please contact the MnGCA Board here: http://www.mngca.org/board-contact.php

CamoCacher has agreed to take this over. Thanks!

New Business:

1. MnGCA Fall Cache Bash 2k6: We are having the annual Fall Event and General Elections Meeting at Baylor Park in Carver County. There is a five member committee working on the event and they have a multitude of awards, caches, events, and other stuff planned.

There is camping available (you will want to sign up as soon as possible – check the cache page for details), there will be food available, and possibly (depending on cloud cover) an opportunity to enjoy Baylor’s fantastic star watching!

The elections meeting will be held on Saturday afternoon and we will be voting on the members of the 2007 MnGCA Board. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting (non-members and members alike) but only MnGCA Members who are eligible are able to vote.

2. Erin from Duluth (dmnrec) and I attended the DNR’s Best Practices exhibit at the Maplewood Community Center last week. We met with officials from numerous parks districts including (but not limited to) the DNR, Dakota County, Ramsey County, Chanhassen, and Eden Prairie.

We gave out copies of the Duluth Policy, FAQs from Groundspeak, etc. It was great talking with so many officials that the MnGCA Board has dealt with in person and over the phone numerous times.

The most important conversation to come out of that day was with Dakota County Parks who are looking to implement a policy. They are currently very interested in the Duluth policy and we will be working closely with them to make sure that the best policy for geocachers and Dakota County Parks comes out of those talks.

3. The Minnesota DNR has released policies for both the Minnesota State Parks and State Forests. The State Parks policy requires pre-approval and a permit from the State Parks personnel on the grounds. The State Forests have a policy but no permit process.

We are still working with the DNR on adopting a policy for the WMAs but they are waiting until they hire another person to their staff before they move forward. We’ll keep you updated.

That’s it for me and for the Silent Bob sponsored Cacheside Chat.

Have a great day and happy cachin’,

Silent Bob
MnGCA President

So someone on the above list will be President?

The list starts with the 2005 Board: JT, Kitch, Silent Bob, s4xton, Buzzygirl, Arcticabn, Paklid, sui generis, and Pear Head are eligible.
