I was over at TC.com and saw the post. I'm not sure if there is anyone here that can do anything about it but just thought I'd let the powers that be know about the situation. I just do want somethng like this to hurt any relationship that there might be.

Hello,
I am not a cacher, instead I manage a nature center that is popular with cachers and after much effort finally have a handle on all the caches that popped up in the park with out permission. We have an endangered and several threatened species that call this park home and yet cachers often seem to prefer the "better to beg for forgiveness" credo when it comes to placing caches.
However, not being one of your "members" I have no way of monitoring caches from your organization since I can't see them. I shouldn't be a member since I'm not a cacher.
Thus I have no choice but to not permit caches from Terrecaching in our park on the most basic grounds - we only allow caches we know about and can monitor, and since I can't monitor yours I have to have them removed when discovered, or when we discover a terracacher finding one.
We have a posted gps/caching policy. We have a number of authorized caches from folks just like you and more pending. We try to work with caching orgs and cachers to make things a positive, non-damaging experience all around, but your system pretty much prevents this.
Over a month ago I sent an email to who appeared to be someone in charge of this system, "Angry Kid," and received no response whatsoever. Doesn't bode well for communication.
You may want to consider a different system. Cachers that operate "undercover" will give all cachers a bad name and force more parks to be closed to your activities.
***sigh***

Thanks for the information!
There's not much we could do. We (the MnGCA) have talked with John in the past and are aware of his policy as it relates to geocaching(http://www.mngca.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2521). John's pretty much in the right to remove caches that are placed in his area without permission. He's also in the right (IMHO) to ask them not to place caches in his park based on the reasons he gives. The failure of the terracaching site to not take action based on the request of a land owner/manager is disappointing. I'm glad we have a local approver who can keep a close eye on the rules in Minnesota (to the best of his ability). This isn't putting down mtn-man - he did a great job although the rules are growing more and more complex all the time. I digress.....
Thanks again! _________________ Hmm... |
