I came across this article in the print version of The Ridgeline, the newsletter of the Superior Hiking Trail Association--I couldn't find it on their website, though.
"GPS Volunteers--We are looking for experienced GPS operators to volunteer to GPS sections of the Superior Hiking Trail. You need to have your own Garmin or Magellan unit or be able to operate our unit, a Garmin 76SMAP. We would also have to make arrangements to download your data. If interested, call or e-mail the SHTA office. It's time for our trail to come into the modern age!"
The SHTA website is www.shta.org, email address is suphike@mr.net and the phone number is (218)834-2700. This looks like a good opportunity to generate some positive PR for our pastime (the SHT crosses all the State Parks that are on the North Shore of Superior). I know I'll be dropping them a line to see if they still need volunteers when my wife Perrine and I get up there sometime later this summer. _________________ There comes a time in every young boy's life when he gets an irresistible urge to seek buried treasure.--Mark Twain |
