|
It took me awhile to figure out what geobeacons are. I really don't know if I'll understand grown men in the woods meowing at each other. The concept of bein pwned is foreign to me....
But WOOT?
I just had to know what WOOT is. From the Urban dictionary, here are some contributions from some, well, WOOTers.
1. woot
Woot originated as a hacker term for root (or administrative) access to a computer. However, with the term as coincides with the gamer term, "w00t".
"w00t" was originally an trunicated expression common among players of Dungeons and Dragons tabletop role-playing game for "Wow, loot!" Thus the term passed into the net-culture where it thrived in video game communities and lost its original meaning and is used simply as a term of excitement."I defeated the dark sorcerer! Woot!"
a) "woot! i r teh flagmastar!" (Think Tribes)
b) "Woot, I pwnzed this dude's boxen!'
2. woot
1) An interjection similar to "YAYE!" or "Woohoo!" used to express joy or excitement, usually about some kind of accomplishment. Primarily used by gamers, spreading rapidly to anyone who chats online
Gaming origins: We Owned the Other Team or Wonderful Loot (Everquest gaming slang)
2) To express agreement
3) As an acronym, can mean Waste of Our Time or Way Out of Topic (online forums) Less common.
a) woot! I got an A on this test.
b) Robyn: Eric is such a tool. Let's put packing peanuts in his desk. Stefanie: woot!
3. Woot
To emphasize something, be happy.Woot! I got a 100% on that math test.
4. Woot
Before ALL of that, woot was a happy noise made by certain Monkees and Guinea Pigs when they are happy or content. Net nerds like to take credit for creating stuff that they only adopted. But I know better. I've heard those monkets. And they're happy. woot.Kristy walks in the door from a long day of work and her Guinea Pig, thrilled to see her, asks "Woot? Woot woot? Woot.”
5. woot
A word originating from the old D&D games, was used to express excitement when finding treasure, the player would say "Wow loot!" thus over time turning into "w00t" in the videogame world, as a form of satisfaction or victory.."Wow loot!" -- Originating from D&D days..
6. woot
A shout of exciment from a geek, nerd, and/or dork within the internet.Woot! I owned that dude!
7. woot
A not so unmasculine way to say yay."Woot, I won again!"
"I pwnz0r j00, woot!"
"...Woot!"
8. woot
1. An expression of extreme happiness, usually used among computer users.
2. A greeting, used for close friends or people you have been expecting.
a) Double kill! WOOT!
b) When the person you are awaiting appears, it is customary to offer a long "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!" The only appropriate response to said Woot is two short, emphatic "WOOT WOOT!"
9. woot
1:An abbreviation for the phrase:"We owned the other team"
2:A simple cry of joy
a) Woot, that was too easy.
b) I just got a new job, Woot!
I have some options to choose from for what a WOOT is. I'm going with number 6.
WOOT !

Looks like you got what you wanted answered, but here's a great resource for the future:
http://www.acronymfinder.com/
and Google is good if you search for "define:acronym" where instead of acronym you put in what you want to define. Example:
http://www.google.com/search?q=define:IMHO

Wasn't there a list of all of these acrynyms on the site earlier? I am too lazy to look back but I think it was something jillibean put together maybe a couple of years ago.
P.S. BTW, Where is Jillibean at anyway? Haven't seen or heard from her in like..........AGES!!! _________________ King of the Jeff Gordon TB's!
