There is an alert from the Minneapolis Park Police regarding assaults along the Cedar Lake Bike Trail. Some bikers have been assaulted as they rode past groups of teenage male and female walkers within several blocks of Sharing and Caring Hands.

The Park Police claim that this type of incident has been rare along the bike trail. They advise as in any other area to trust your gut instincts when approaching suspicious persons.

They also advise that if you feel you are unsafe in approaching do not hesitate to turn around or take an alternate route. In cases such as these one of the best personal safety devices you can carry is a cellular phone to report potential trouble or actual incidents immediately by calling 911.

Last week I commuted downtown along that path and saw 2 cop cars and one on a motorcycle. I had heard about the mugging so I knew what the extra force was for. I mountain bike down there all the time and have never had a problem or seen groups of people, ever. Hopefully it's an isolated incident.
