Anyone have any idea what this is all about? I was looking at the Buxley's page and it listed these as sites. It says they are random. I noticed one that is close to home. I already know where this is at but don't know why this site would be picked for a point as such. There is nothing at this spot or close to it that would be of any interest other than to the local community at this site.

Anyone know anything about these dashpoints? What is there purpose?

Geodashing is a game in which players use GPS receivers on a playing field that covers the entire planet. The waypoints, or dashpoints, to be reached are randomly selected. The win goes to who can get to the most dashpoints; that is, if you can get to them at all! Each game has a new set of dashpoints making each game completely different and unpredictable. Join and play!

You're quick, SB...just googled it again to find the link. I looked at this last year, and thought it would be cool to come up with random coords, then have people take pics from those coords. Kind of like a "day in America" one of the morning shows did a couple of years ago, where they had taken random pics across the country in one day.

I'd think it would be hard to get more than one of these, unless one travels a lot.

The one close to me is within a mile of home. It is in the cities compost site. It is also used as a outdoor practice fire range in the summer. Like I said not much of a place of interest.

It's really hard for a computer to pick a lat and a long at random with the constraint that the numbers happen to be at an interesting location. If geodashing has any appeal, it's that uncertainty - will the location you visit be cool or a cess pool?

My wife and I tried this last summer, but every one we tried led us to private property. We were not very impressed. This is not to say it might not be fun for somebody else, I guess everybody will have thier own opinion.
